Have you often heard of the word Maya?
Maya means or refers to illusion.
Like the water that appears in the Mirage, like the oasis that seems to be so welcoming to the tired desert traveler, Maya is also that which appears as real but in reality, does not even exist.

I am not going to talk about the unreal existence that we all lead but about one aspect that hits the most sane of us.
Take, for example, Mr. A. He is a very confident person who is a go-getter but somewhere along the line, he also has got insecurities and sometimes loses track of what he is in reality and falls for the 'fears' that his mind creates, and if he does not do something to counter it, he falls for it.
Below is a story my teacher narrated during one class. It is very useful and I wanted to share it with all.
Imagine that one day, Mr.A is traveling in the night and he sees a light in the distance. He wishes to rest for the night and is preparing to approach the house and ask the owner for resting during the night. A begins to imagine that the owner might not like a stranger to stay and A talks in his mind and tries to justify himself. A thinks of various scenes in which he and the house owner whom he has not even met, talk it out. This goes on for a few minutes and by this time, A has 'gone far' in justifying himself in the imaginary scenario. Meanwhile, A reached the front door of the house and rings the bell. The house owner opens the door and A speaks angrily even before the house owner asks him what he wants.
What did you understand from the above scene?
A is one of us and what he did has most likely been done by many of us before in some kind of similar situation.
Reality is often very different but we confuse ourselves and fall for the illusion. Life is a challenge and we have to meet it and get over the illusion and face reality but many a time, the fear and the worries gets beneath our skin and we begin to act like A.
I am not sure what happened to A but A would have behaved in a similar manner whenever he had to confront such situations and his personal life too would have been problematic if he kept imagining even before facing real situations.
Life is not a bed of roses and has never been, even for princesses. So, whenever you feel you are not confident enough, just keep on praising yourself in your mind for accomplishing several feats in the past and you will soon be happy and confident enough to face even the worst of situations and get over it. It is not too hard and remember to be thankful enough to have what you already have in your hand and all will be ok.
