The idea of AI being used in healthcare is both exciting and concerning. Google has been testing AI systems to help doctors diagnose and treat patients more efficiently, but there are important ethical issues we need to consider.
As nurses, we’re trained to treat patients as whole beings—biologically, psychologically, socially, and emotionally. We see beyond the diagnosis to the person as a whole, which is something AI simply cannot replicate.
While AI tools in healthcare may help with diagnostics and treatment recommendations, they miss the human touch. AI can analyze data and suggest options, but it can’t truly understand the emotional needs of a patient or provide the comforting presence that a nurse or doctor can.
🔹 Bio – AI can process medical data, but it can’t examine a patient’s body with the intuition and care that a nurse can.
🔹 Psych – AI can’t sense a patient’s anxiety or offer emotional support, nor can it communicate empathy to help ease fears.
🔹 Social – AI doesn’t build relationships with families or support them in navigating complex healthcare decisions.
Ultimately, AI may assist in some aspects of care, but it will never replace the holistic, compassionate care that only humans can provide. The role of real healthcare professionals is irreplaceable, especially when it comes to understanding the full scope of a patient’s needs.
AI can support the medical team, but it will always be the human touch—the ability to connect, empathize, and care—that makes a difference in healthcare.
Have a nice day,
