Manabí, land of my love, the land where I was born, beloved province.
Manabí tierra de mis amores, la tierra que me vió nacer, provincia querida
I am very happy and proud to present Ammy dressed in the typical costume of Manabí, province of Ecuador in which I was born and we live in Portoviejo, capital of Manabí. By fate I had to migrate when I was only 7 years old, so I do not remember being able to wear this costume and dance to celebrate the so-called Manabitismo.
On June 25 the celebration of the creation of this province takes place, in schools, colleges and in every public entity is celebrated, as well as the people who were born here, it is a pride to say that I am Manabita! In the case of Ammy, although she is not born here, she carries it in her veins, since she is my daughter.
Me siento muy feliz y orgullosa de presentarles a Ammy vestida con el traje típico de Manabí, provincia del Ecuador en la cual nací y vivimos en Portoviejo capital Manabita. Por cuestiones del destino tuve que migrar cuando solo tenía 7 años, así que no recuerdo haber podido vestir este traje y bailar para celebrar el llamado Manabitismo.
El 25 de Junio se lleva a cabo la celebración de la creación de esta provincia, en las escuelas, colegios y en todo ente público se celebra, al igual que las personas que nacimos aquí, es un orgullo decir que ¡Soy Manabita! En el caso de Ammy, aunque no lo es de nacimiento, lo lleva en sus venas, ya que es mi hija.
The costume is made in two pieces, with the colors of the flag of Manabi, green, white and red, the flag also has stars, the girls wear wide skirts, and blouses with sleeves on the shoulder, also the hair up and big bows or ribbons with the same colors of the flag, dressed like peasants. The boys wear fisherman pants, espadrilles type shoes and white shirts on the outside, they also wear a straw hat, typical of the area and represent the Montuno, working man of the countryside, representative of the province.
El traje se realiza en dos piezas, con los colores de la bandera de Manabí, verde, blanco y rojo, la bandera también tiene estrellas, las niñas usan faldas anchas, y blusas con mangas al hombro, también el cabello recogido y lazos grandes o cintas con los mismos colores de la bandera, vestidas tipo campesinas. Los niños llevan pantalones recogidos tipo pescador, zapatos tipo alpargatas y camisas blancas por fuera, ellos además usan un sombrero de paja, típico de la zona y representan al Montuno, hombre de campo trabajador, representante de la provincia.
This is how we celebrated today at my daughter's school the Manabitismo and besides that, they presented a typical dance, with music that enhances the beauty of this province. Wearing the Manabita costume is something that fills children and adults with pride, the little ones were very happy and the girls took care of every detail, since they also used allusive accessories that made them look much more beautiful than they already are.
It is very nice to feel part of something, even more to feel proud to represent the land where you are from, but it is even more beautiful when your children do it too. It makes me laugh that when I was a child, despite not being Venezuelan I always represented Venezuela with the typical costumes and dances, and now my daughter here in Ecuador, being Venezuelan she represents Ecuador and its provinces.
Hoy, celebramos en la escuela de mi hija el Manabitismo y además de eso, presentaron un baile típico, con música que realza lo bello de esta provincia. Vestir el traje Manabita es algo que a niños y adultos llena de orgullo, los pequeños estaban muy felices y las niñas cuidaron cada detalle, ya que también usaron accesorios alusivos y que las hiciera ver mucho más hermosa de lo que ya son.
Es muy bonito sentirte parte de algo, más aún sentir orgullo al representar la tierra de donde eres, pero más hermoso es cuando tus hijos también lo hacen. Me hace gracia que cuando yo era niña, a pesar de no ser venezolana siempre representaba a Venezuela con los trajes típicos y bailes, y ahora mi hija aquí en Ecuador, siendo ella Venezolana representa a Ecuador y sus provincias.
