I recently joined the L1L DAWGS ELITE Guild in Splinterlands - a bit expensive but great company, awesome founder and for me the chance to participate in guild brawls and earn merits for Gladius cards. In the current brawl I had an interesting battle with powerful Gladius cards facing off against each other!
First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

In this battle my favourite and possibly most powerful card Quora Towershead faced off against another powerful card, Ketrelba Gobson. While Quora is an Epic and Ketrelba a common it was still a challenging battle due to the ruleset!
Its plain to see that Quora is a powerful card - double attack (melee & magic), high health and self heal. The only drawback is the 10 mana cost. With just one or two bloodlust activations Quora is nearly unstoppable!
On the other side is Katrelba with both sneak and double attack. Two melee sneak is powerful, doubled up more so, and with bloodlust really nasty too.
And on to the battle:

The rules that applied to this battle were:
Mana cap of 34 - A decent cap allowing for some high powered cards;
Fire, Earth or Dragon Splinters;
Unprotected - No Armor;
Explosive Weaponary - Blast baby Blast!.
Brawl limit - this was Fray 4 so novice level caps, regular and gold allowed, Alpha and Beta only.
A good sized cap allows a fair bit of flexibility in team building. In terms of the ruleset for both Quora and Katrelba will be good with blast as they can both use two attacks and thus two blasts. Advantage goes slightly to Katrelba here as she will always get two attacks at the back line but Katrelba will only get two attacks when she is in front position - which she can handle as a tank but sometimes you want here to last a bit longer at the cost of the melee attack (other rulesets can work better for here such as super sneak!).
Sneak does mean Katrelba is limited to hitting two cards only (the back two, the target and blast) unless a taunt card changes that. This doesn't change much as the same applies to Quora who can only hit the front two (the front two, the target and blast).
For this battle I went with:
Summoner - Lyana (3) - Plus one health and she was the only summoner I could use anyway!
Stone Golem (5) - To mitigate ranged/melee with the Shield ability and absorb some damage before Quora hits the front line;
Quora (10) - obviously she was going to feature but here shes secondary tank and hopefully when she hits the front line she'll have had a bloodlust activation to make here a real beast to deal with;
Swamp Thing (2) - to fill out the team and the weaken ability is always handy;
Magi of the Forest (4) - for the two magic attack;
Goblin Sorcerer (3) - for the sneak magic attack;
Earth Elemental (3) - mostly to absorb some sneak attacks;
Using only 30 out of 34 this team should be fairly solid but it is clear Quora is the key with the high health and self heal to offset blast and a big damage output as well. Sad that I could only muster 30/34 but it is a Alpha/Beta only fray so I have to do with just a bunch of cards I rented.
The opposition went for a Lyana deck too:
Summoner - Lyana (3) - Plus one health and she was the only summoner I could use anyway!
Peaceful Giant (5) - for the eight life;
Minotaur (4) - for the melee reach attack;
Magi Sphinx (5) - for the two magic attack
Magi of the Forest (4) - for the two magic attack;
Katrelba (10) - for the two by two melee sneak attack to break down the team from back to front!;
Goblin Sorcerer (3) - for the sneak magic attack;
Using 34 out of 34 this is a powerful deck with all but the giant able to attack. Plan is clear, tank attacks, three attackers working on the front line, two sneaking from the back, keep Katrelba alive for bloodlust. Magic heavy. This is going to be a tough battle.
Let's get started:
Turn One - Our teams trade shots with plenty of blast. Key moves are a blast from my Magi of the Forest taking out his minotaur but even more key could be his Katrelba with his double shot blast killing my Goblin Sorcerer reducing my team and making her even more powerful. The turn ends with just the one kill on each team, Stone Golem hanging on with three life and Peaceful Giant likewise with two life. Katrelba now has three melee damage and Quora has not changed barring her health which is down to 10 life.
Turn Two - Another round of trading shots but Katrelba is devastating taking out both the Earth Elemental and the Magi of the Forest with double shot and blast and getting two more bloodlust activations! Some blast damage on the Swamp Thing too. On my side Quora kills Peaceful Giant and gets a bloodlust boost. The turn ends with my team just down to Quora with eleven life but three magic and three melee attack. Katrelba has five life and a massive five melee damage (doubled up makes 10!) which is nasty!
Turn Three - It's not looking good as shown in the lineup below:
Three vs two with a powerful Katrelba in play - can Quora turn it around? Katrelba is quickest and takes out the swamp thing killing it, doing three blast damage to Quora, gets a bloodlust activation then hits Quora for six more damage leaving her with only two live. Ouch! Quora goes next taking out the Sphinx and then Magi of the Forest with her two attacks and getting two bloodlust activations before the sorcerer firing a one damage shot on her.
The Swamp Thing has done it's job taking a hit from Katrelba giving my team one chance - with the two blood lust activations the lineup for turn four is as follows with both Quora and Katrelba with six speed each - whoever goes first wins....
Turn Four - And Quora goes first! annihilating Katrelba with magic the blast taking out the sorcerer. Game Over!
A fun battle showing the power of Gladius Cards and the Bloodlust ability! Quora with a huge magic and melee attack can be devastating combined with her heal ability. It was a close one though as a double sneak attack with blast and bloodlust can also be massive!
