its been well below zero degrees these last few weeks and it feels like i haven't felt the sun in months. My snowskate is pretty busted, its becoming delaminated and the bottom needs to be waxed or something because its very difficult to get speed.
I went to a video premier one friday night and after the video i decided to stop by the skatepark to bust out the snowskate. I haven't gotten out the snowskate all year because, well, i haven't been to excited about winter this year, even though it has been a mild winter, comparatively.
i ended up actually doing a kickflip off a ledge which was a new trick to me. ive never gotten a kickflip on a snowskate on film before.
snowskating is hard because its impossible to turn. i'm sort-of learning how to ollie on one, but i really don't practice much. i bet if i practiced more i would get more the hang of it.
here is how my friends are spending their winter. at least snowskating involves fresh air, am i right?
still, everyone copes with winter in their own way, and thats fine, well, except for people who don't have winter heh heh. maybe i will be one of those people some day...
i enjoyed my snowskating session, even though it might be the only one of the year for me. i enjoyed it so much that i went out the next day and tried to get more clips. i found a cool 4 stair that i wanted to try to kickflip but i couldnt get speed.
I discovered that the quality of the snow VERY much effects your ability to snowskate. When its super cold, and the snow is powdery, you really only want about 1 inch of snow on the ground, otherwise, the snowskate sinks and you lose speed considerably.
these ledges and stairs were screaming "snow skate on me!" but i didnt have my tripod at the time i walked by these, that day. when i returned, it was too dark at this spot to get some clips.
I ended up trying to do flatground on a hockey ice rink... yeah, not a good idea.
i found these cool christmas lights set up in the town square and i decided to try to get one last, late-night clip here. i almost did a backside flip but couldn't really figure it out. its certainly frustrating to fall off the board before you jump, because the snowskate doesn't turn.
in other news, look at this computer sent me.
he shipped it in a pizza bag.
im stoked to get this PC set up with windows and for it to become my new game dev machine, i know this isnt skate related, but its a testament to how you can make lasting friends over the internet. In this case, it was skatehive that brought us together and he felt inspired to bless me with this gaming laptop. I think it will be much better for game dev than the macbook i currently use.
Heres a clip from my last session at familia.
i accidentally got into a manual from a front crook haha. uh, yeah.
thanks for reading my skate blog and by the time i do my next one, i should be located in a much warmer climate ;)
cheers,
