The Weekend
As you may have noticed, my frequency of updates has slowed down. Decided to batch the last 2 weekends in a single post again. This was the first time I did full weekend ranks as WAR. The build of choice was Aggro War, in hopes of being able to counter the Light heavy meta with weapons and blitz creatures. You’ll find a breakdown of the matchups from both weekends in the tables below. In short, it was another set of rough weekends. Light still rained supreme. And having to go second against Aggro light especially is like fighting an uphill battle. In the second weekend I even face Control and Order Light decks. My WAR lineup was about 50% overall. But for getting 14 and 11 wins respectively still netted me maximum quantity packs in that range.
Week 22
| OPPONENT | WIN | LOSE | TOTAL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Death | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Deception | 3 | 3 | 6 |
| Light | 4 | 3 | 7 |
| Magic | 2 | 0 | 2 |
| Nature | 3 | 2 | 5 |
| War | 2 | 3 | 5 |
| TOTAL | 14 | 11 | 25 |
I’d give weekend a pretty balance matchup spread across 5 different gods (with the exception of Death). The matchup themselves were also quite a toss-up of either win or lose. Going second can be quite a coin flip with the War configuration I went with.
Week 23
| OPPONENT | WIN | LOSE | TOTAL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Death | 0 | 1 | 1 |
| Deception | 2 | 0 | 2 |
| Light | 4 | 6 | 10 |
| Magic | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| Nature | 0 | 4 | 4 |
| War | 4 | 1 | 5 |
| TOTAL | 11 | 14 | 25 |
This is the weekend where Light dominated tremendously. To make matters worse, every Nature match I faced I went second which made it even harder to apply enough pressure against all the regen and beefy creatures that Nature has. This was probably one of my worst weekends ever, that I didn’t even bother to finish the 30 wins to get that extra DO pack lol.
Decks Used
For reference, here’s my WAR Deck I used for the last 2 weekends. A quick rundown of the strategy is to establish board control early with a combination of weapons and blitz. Ideally you want to start with Enduring Shield. This almost always guarantees you have creature removal and keeping your own creatures sticky on the board, especially when going first and have a Tavern Brawler or Warmonger Smith going the next turn.
After that, try to go face as much as possible with board creatures, and using creatures with weapons and blitz to clear the opponent’s board. If can’t play anything optimal in a turn, us the Slayer god power as much as possible to slowly chip away health from the opposing god. Vicious Rend should almost always be used as a surprise finishing spell to end the match. 2 Rends, God Power and Blade of Styx can already be 11 face damage in 1 turn. That’s without accounting for any creatures you already have on the board.
