Hi All!
Today’s post is a bit different! I haven’t added any new features to Gumeta yet, but plenty of exciting updates are in progress, like general daily stats with charts and more detailed meta insights. I’ve noticed a lot of feedback and complaints on Discord about the new formats mode, so I wanted to address it here. This guide will cover strategies for using the tools available on Gumeta and making the most out of the cards in your collection to gain an advantage.
Yesterday, I saw AbbathGR's nature deck video in the Pauper format and it inspired me to try something similar. I bought 3 diamonds for $6 each and rented another cheap 5 diamonds, completing my deck with a total of 20 diamonds. I ended up with my usual score of 5 wins in the Mythic rank.
Formats mode strategy
I have a somewhat controversial opinion on Pauper: I actually enjoy it! It requires a different approach compared to other formats. In Pauper, you need to be ready to counter deception decks, making good use of the resources you have. This includes utilizing shiny cards to construct a competitive deck and identifying affordable cards to complete it.
Upcoming Formats: Singletons and Underdog
The upcoming formats, Singletons and Underdog, seem to favor deception as well, especially with the OP god power. By looking on discord updates forcast I don't think GU will change GP in time, but I’m genuinely looking forward to the formats challenges!
Game plan: counter Deception
When playing nature, there are generally two effective strategies against deception:
- Generate more and better cards than Deception through Create GP and Mutations.
- Using this deck I recommend do not use Bagger GP at all.
- Overwhelm with strong creatures that can't be removed in a single turn, leveraging double foodchain or Hollowform in the late game.
- For other gods that stand a chance against Deception, Magic and War performs decently when focusing on face damage.
Motivation to Play Pauper
As a foodchain player with 95% of my time in Mythic rank, I often encounter tough matchups in Constructed Ranked, like Heal Light or Mayday, which are almost unbeatable. In these cases, I only have about a 5% chance of winning, often conceding by turn 6. However, in Pauper (and likely in upcoming formats), my nature deck gives me a fair chance, even against Deception.
Using GUMETA Meta Stats for Formats
Especially If you're a War player, it's useful to understand GUMETA stats and features to minimize encounters with deception as much as possible. Here are some general tips:
- Focus on the total number of games in a 2-hour timeframe in your rank, including adjusted ranks or use total games for simplicity.
Time your matches based on player activity. More games are usually played during peak hours in regions with the most players, like the US. More games mean a lower chance of facing Deception or top-tier players with meta decks. - Adapting to different matchups: While Pauper currently doesn’t have a wide variety of viable archetypes, I hope future formats will offer more diversity for each god.
- To optimize your strategy based on Gumeta stats:
Click on the god you want to play.
In the archetype summary, review how well it performs in different matchups.
Adjust your deck according to the matchups you're likely to face. Be flexible! - Finally, use GUvr with GUMETA integration and remember that in high ranks, your opponent will likely know your deck too.
Thanks reading!
