How did I fared in my debut?
Of course, I lost. In fact, I got beaten quite badly. But hey, it's all for the fun and experience 😄 *btw, I don't know how to embed the Youtube video within the post so I just posted the link. If someone could guide me on how to do the embedding, that will be great! Thank you in advance! *
Clash of Mortals 2: Divine Judgement
This was the name of the tournament. It was organised by Lion (I only know him as Lion in Discord) and the prize money was 500 MATIC. It ran from 14th Dec till 19th Dec. Cards can only be Welcome and Order set. So, now time for some after match review...
Round 1 - Death vs War
I have to say I was being over ambitious as I am still a beginner in Death deck. But the few days before this match, I had quite a good run for the Death deck and I thought it was fun. So, I tried and failed badly 😅
I was doing OK until around turn 6 when it was getting obvious my cards had no synergy and I start to ran out of cards/creatures to play. It was also that turn 6 when the opponent played "Sole Survivor" and he pretty much won the game at that point. It was my first time seeing this card too! (yes, I still have a long way to go...) I had a 8 mana card in hand but that's useless at this point. After that, I was basically finished in 2 turns.
After Thoughts? I did not have a focus and was trying to do both zombie and some big nether creatures. I ended up not being able to do anything. So, I revamped the deck again and again. First thing I did was to have a focus, e.g. should I focus on zombies or the nether creatures. Currently, this is my latest Death deck. This is still fairly new and any suggestions to improve is welcomed 🙏
For Nature deck, I was trying to do an armor deck but none of the cards came. I survived the first Moonlight Charm + Cyclops attack but that also did not put me at any advantage. My next better creature "Enforcer" fell to the Falling Star and died quickly. Next, the opponent's Enforcer came out and with Moonlight Charm, it was hard to counter with my cards in hand. The last straw was the "Sudden Bloom" which really gave me a sudden death.
After Thoughts? This time I was too over reliance on the armor cards combo, e.g. porcupine + aspect of the pangolin + jump on or the snapping turtle. I needed the combination to come or else I can't do much. Of course, I never lasted till they came. Learning lesson was if I needed certain combo cards to come, I need to have some clearing cards to make sure I last till then. Anyway, I decided to change strategy and rebuild a totally different Nature deck using that Moonlight Charm as well. Since I can't beat it, I shall join the Moonlight Charm camp.
Final Thoughts
So, was I sad that I lost? Of course. Will I play tournament again? Absolutely yes! I'm more fired than before to make sure I get the deck building perfect! In fact, I joined a 2nd tournament shortly after and had a slightly better result (made it to Stage 2). I will share that next time. Meanwhile, let's continue to play with the Gods!
