A weekly recap of my Mythic Weekend Ranked experience, this time doing a challenge of using all the different tribes. Prior to this, I’ve done two challenges so far, first a Free-To-Play (F2P) Gauntlet with all the Gods to show that they can all compete and get Legendary packs, and second I did another Gauntlet using only Welcome and Core Cards.
Wow after a sad showing with Structure last time, I bounced back with the best Tribal Warfare weekend so far, getting 12 Wins with Vikings! This deck is a little similar to the F2P War deck and the WelCore War deck I used in my previous two series, with some new tools to replace the non-Vikings. One of the best parts of this deck is how fast the games are decided, you either win quickly or you know you’ve lost. This is also only the second deck so far in this series that has gotten a Legendary Pack.

*Weeks 24 and 25 were out of 25 games; it changed to 18 games starting Weekend 26
Here’s the deck that I used, costing 0.0276ETH or ~$45.
Very good showings against most Gods, but unfortunately I faced my worst matchup the most times, which was Aggro Deception; the one I won against Deception was a Control version, so technically I’m 0-4 against Aggro Deception. They just ramp faster in strength and hidden means you can’t trade to contain the damage. The good thing is the nice variety of Gods which means the Meta is pretty healthy. I’m actually surprised I didn’t see more Control Magic as the (long) climb back to Mythic during the week was filled with them. Without matching up against all those Aggro D’s (haha) this deck could’ve gotten even more wins!
Strengths
-Sticky minions with Protect and Afterlifes mean consistent target for buffs
-Good amount of blitz to take back the board
-A few Flank options to keep hitting face and putting on pressure even when they have Frontlines
-Some snowballing potential with Thunder Caller
Weaknesses
-No defensive traits and generally lower health for their cost, but not that big of a deal when going Aggro
-Few card value/draw options except for Runecaster of Auros, which is a little restrictive if not using all Vikings
Notable Cards
Master Tactician is a sticky early minion which is quite useful, and a bonus that it gives your other creatures Flank for one turn to put on the pressure. Thunder Caller is snowball potential which gets better if you opened with Enduring Shield to give it Protect, one left for a turn can cost your opponent the game. Oddi is great for playing your whole hand faster which is what you want to do in Aggro. Viking Longship is another Flank spreader, but even better as it’s permanent, plus it comes with Blitz to activate it on the same turn! Runecaster of Auros gives you the draw that Aggro desperately wants; it’s a little restrictive if you don’t play all Vikings and if you have higher mana cards, but for my deck it works perfectly (plus I built it with lower mana cards for this reason).
Notable Cards Not In My Deck
I think Tamed Mammoth is a pretty good mid-range option, and I used it in my WelCore deck; it’s not the perfect fit for an Aggro deck though. Helmna is probably the most played Viking as it’s Neutral and very good for Control Decks. Valka is pretty insane, as it should be for 9 mana, but usually you only see her as a randomly generated card or delved from a Jason. That Afterlife is great tribe synergy too!
Other Gods
Other than War which has 50 (most I’ve seen in this series so far!) God-specific Vikings, Death/Deception/Light all have 1. This is probably the most God-loyal tribe in the game!
It’ll be Wild next week! But how to make a Wild deck that’s not “too” meta? Hmmm I do have a few ideas.
Very lame packs from my very lame weekend last time with Structures haha, but next time there will be a Legendary :)
