I would like to start with a question I came across on Reddit:
What Cards Should a Beginner Buy First?
The poster said he had just got the first $GODS reward and⦠what to buy now?
I answered that, like, you probably better keep your GODS untouched until you know Gods Unchained better.
What would your answer be?..
These days, I have a candidate for such investment - Diligent Architect.
I would also advise to check https://gudecks.com/meta/card-rankings and choose affordable cards in the top 40 of your favorite god domain. But if you want a certain card, this may be Diligent Architect.
An educational creature since it gives cards of different domains and sets.
It is neutral so it fits every god although it belongs to Guild Tribe so it comes the best with Deception.
Diligent Architect alone can raise a beginner to the next level. And as I believe, it is a good choice for creating decks on the higher levels. I personally have it in my favorite Deception deck.
It costs 0.0022 ETH or 2.5 GODS on Immutable X market so this is still an affordable card.
+2 Health
Diligent Architect is not a warrior, rather an office person with 2/2 for 3 mana.
But the most valuable is that Diligent Architect's roar delves a structure and adds +2 health to it. For example:
Inconspicuous Carriage is even fatter when it comes from Diligent Architect.
The less health the original card has, the cooler it becomes with extra 2 health. Sometimes, Diligent Architect doubles the health:
One of the cheapest rare DO cards becomes something special with doubled health.
Pillar of Lightning is an amazing low-mana card that is regularly offered by Diligent Architect. Every time, your rival hits one of your creatures, the weakest enemy creature gets 1 damage.
If your 6-card army gets wiped with Rapture Dance, Pillar of Lightning, before it dies, deals 6 damage altogether to the enemy weakest creature/-s one by one! If coincidently, you have 2 such structures... π When you hit your own creature (to hide your Jinxblade Duelist or Ludia's Dedicant, for example), Pillar of Lightning anyway punishes the weakest enemy card!
Switch Duelist is reading about Pillar of Lightning and nervously smoking with trembling fingers. π
This was just an example of amazing opportunities and synergies that appear thanks to the powers of Diligent Architect.
Cards with Order
Another example is cards with order like Pillar of Lightning. For example, if you play Light, you might have an Archpriest of Parthene. If so, you can get a huge bonus:
Pillar of Lightning brings up to +10 strength to Archpriest of Parthene (if they come at the same turn).
I saw Diligent Architect included in Light decks and I want to try by myself.
Here, I can't help mentioning how I discovered Archpriest... Once, I used Surprise Delivery (those annoying barrels) against Light... And look what I saw next:
Archpriest 38 / 38!!
It was real surprise delivery for me! π
Legendary Cards
I don't know how exactly Diligent Architect chooses cards for delving. But it regularly offers legs. It sometimes happens Diligent Architect offers two legendaries in one delving.
Check random examples of Diligent Architect's delving below:
Guild Synergy
Diligent Architect belongs to Guild Tribe. It means it has synergy for example with Desert Mercenary:
Roar of Desert Mercenary reduces the cost of Diligent Architect to 1 mana!
I have a couple of Architects and Mercenaries in my favorite deck as well as many other 2/3-mana Guild cards to enjoy the power of Desert Mercenary.
My favorite deck currently. Order Guild Deception
Diligent Architect / Pan Marauder Combo
Other cards can reduce the cost of structures acquired by Diligent Architect. One of them is Pan Marauder:
Its roar and its attack reduce by 2 the cost of non-Deception and non-Neutral cards. Every attack by 2!!
For example, this is the original legendary Watchtower of Agrodor:
And this is how it looks after it has been delved by Diligent Architect + the roar and two attacks of Pan Marauder:
Mana 0, Strength 2, Health 10.
I don't have Pan Marauders in my deck currently... 6 mana is a lot... But I own a couple of them... I keep experimenting.
Diligent Architect + Merchant Prince
Merchant Prince is about almost the same idea:
Merchant Prince is weak for 4 mana and out of the reach of Desert Mercenary's roar so I hesitate - to buy or not to buy...
Diligent Architect + the Hollow
I don't have Merchant Prince but I get it from the Hollow from time to time. The Hollow can give you Desert Mercenary as well. Thus, we conclude: Diligent Architect and the Hollow come together well.
Cons
Someone can say that all this looks fine but delving structures randomizes the deck too much and one more turn is usually needed + Diligent Architect is a weak card...
2/2 for 3 mana is weak, true. But consider the fact, Diligent Architect endues +2 health to a delved structure.
By the way, there is another weakling: Lightfoot Informant.
It also a sort of randomizes the deck since it copies a random spell (from the opponent's deck though).
Despite of these facts, Lightfoot Informant is one of the top-10 Deception cards currently on gudecks.com.
Another "randomizer" is:
Jason, Medea's Muse is a very popular legendary card.
Ultimately, the question is whether a card works for you or not. In my case, Diligent Architect works so far.
Invest or Not Invest
Diligent Architect belongs to Trial of the Gods set so it is locked and won't be changed as some cards of Core or Divine Order.
Innovations might not seriously harm Diligent Architect since it delves structures. It will delve new and refeatured structures as well.
Its price may potentially grow since no new Trial cards are minted.
At the same time, Trial of the Gods is the previous set, older than Genesis so, one day, it can be taken out of circulation... Who knows when? For this reason, I have only three Architects, not ten π
Diligent Architect is a common card and, I would say, this only means the price has a big potential since common cards may become scarce later than legendary, epic and rare ones.
Diligent Architect price action on tokentrove.com
The price action looks frightening - the price has skyrocketted since December 2021 - what if it falls?.. It may for a while (or not). However, the more GU players, the scarcier the card. It means the price might grow in the long term. Or it might fall especially in case GU devs make a better alternatives out of a Core / DO card, there is no garantee.
Not financial advice, DYOR! π
