Just after the pandemic, we travelled home to stay with our grandparents in the western north in Nigeria, in one of the rural settlements. Their occupation over there is majorly farming and fishing. Fishing during the dry season and farming in the rainy season.
Despite the pandemic, we still go out to farm with no restrictions, because the town is far from the urban settlement.
Today, we went out as a family to clear the weeds that have grown amidst the maize crop.
The farm land is about 12hectares and only maize was planted. It really wasn't easy resuming farming after a long time. Though I feel happy to once again cultivate a field for food.
Maize, I believe is one of the major crop that is farm in the country because of it increasing profit in the market. I also ventured into it.
I remember participating in a contest asking about what we plan to do or achieve during this Coronavirus pandemic , being introduced to farm once again is also something I will do during this period, and I hope to harvest more than or about 10 bags of corn.
This pictures was taken by our younger sister who watched us farm. Right now I feel a bit stressed up after the hard work. Again, tomorrow is another day, the work started last week Saturday and we hope to complete it by Wednesday.
I will have more pictures to show when the maize is grown up , that's if the pandemic will still continue until then, else, I do be in school then.
Somehow, this is our participation to the growth of the country economy, through farming. I hope to continue farming after my school, probably on a large scale then.
