Today is the 12th of Robiul Awal which is the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. In my area, where 99% of the population is Muslim, birthday celebrations are routinely held every year in mosques. One thing I want to inform all of my friends is that one of the traditions that exist in my area when commemorating the birthday or birth of the Prophet Muhammad is the existence of Bongsang.
Bongsang is the name of a food container made of woven bamboo.
The Maulid Commemoration Committee provides bongsang which will be given to all those present at the end of the Maulid commemoration. The food container or bongsang filled with rice and side dishes was collected by the committee from local residents and after the birthday commemoration event ended with a prayer, the bongsang was given.
