Shirley MacLaine, who just celebrated her 90th birthday on the 24th of April, has left me in astonishment with her amazing journey. She talked to PEOPLE magazine recently, and those snippets from her life were very inspiring.
At 90 years old, Shirley is still living it up. Dance was a huge part of this joyousness and discipline she observed during those young days. She started dancing when she was only three years old and went on till she was sixty-seven!
Now that’s loyalty!
But not just about the moves; dance gave her something more valuable for life: pain management, love for music, discipline and teamwork. Amazingly enough, simple dancing can mold somebody’s personality so deeply.
What impressed me most was how grateful Shirley was at all times. Despite being an icon of Hollywood, she remained modest and appreciative. To keep working surrounded by friends and to have good health are things she treasures most. It reminds me to value little things such as health or the company of my loved ones.
The other thing that grabbed my attention was the upcoming projects of Shirley. She has a film to shoot titled “People Not Places” and on October 22, she is releasing a book called “The Wall of Life.” It is through these platforms that she shares with the world experiences throughout her life. When people are so eager to tell their stories and connect with others it makes you feel good at heart.
Looking back into Shirley’s life there is no doubt that her passion for life has been continuous. She once said her 85 years old were perfect, which depicted how positive she was about life. Simplicity was one of the values she holds dear allowing her to eat any food and take a nap whenever necessary. Besides that, loving animals plus nature gives tranquility in her soul. This reminds me to find happiness in simple things while recognizing the beauty of our surrounding natural world.
Shirley MacLaine epitomizes hope and inspiration in a society where growing older is often viewed as something negative. Her life demonstrates that numbers do not matter; it is all about having lived well. From this journey I have learned how I should treasure each moment by being grateful to the experiences of my own life.
I am amazed and grateful as I look back at Shirley’s life. She is not only a Hollywood legend but a model for living life to the fullest, finding joy in everyday things and promoting kindness wherever one goes.
Shirley MacLaine – the real icon; her heritage will forever live in the hearts of those she motivated for years to come.
