Wild turn of events! I can't believe Trump barely dodged a bullet at his rally in Pennsylvania. It's like something out of a movie, in real life, that is. I feel we are living in crazy times where a former president gets shot at during one of his campaign events. This whole thing gives me the creeps. I mean, Trump’s not my favorite guy, but nobody deserves to have their life threatened like that.
I'm glad Trump is OK, just a little nick in the ear. Man, my heart goes out to that poor guy Corey Comperatore who didn’t make it. Can you imagine going to a political event and never coming home? It’s tragic. I’ve been to a few rallies myself, and thoughts of violence breaking out really are scaring me now.
What’s in the mind of that shooter, Thomas Crooks? Twenty years old and to toss your life in the garbage like that? I mean, what pushed him to an extreme like this? It’s just indicative of how polarized our country is right now. I think we have to find a way to disagree without killing each other.
This whole incident has me worried about the upcoming election. Will there be more attempts like this? I hope not, but I bet security’s going to be intense at every political event from now on. What a sad time it has come to. I remember when politics was boring, now it feels like a powder keg.
Wonder what it will do for the campaign.
Will it get Trump more support? Put other candidates on greater alert? One thing’s for sure: It’ll be all that anybody talks about for weeks. I just hope it doesn’t inspire some copycats or further extremism.
I think we all really need to take a deep breath and remember that regardless of our political persuasion, we are all Americans. There is no place in our democracy for this kind of violence. Let’s hope cooler heads prevail as we move forward. It’s a wake-up call for all of us: time to tone down the rhetoric and find common ground. Easier said than done, I know, but we’ve got to try.
