The world of cryptocurrency is changing, and so is the political landscape around it. For quite some time, most people have held the view that crypto was exclusively a concern of the Republicans. That is now changing fast.
What is new now is the Democrats taking notice.
This shift was evident during a recent virtual event, Crypto4Harris. It was designed to signal the Democrats' newfound attention toward cryptocurrency issues. The exciting thing about this is that Chuck Schumer, one of the top Democrats, said he would like to pass a law related to crypto this year. This is big news because Democrats haven't said much about crypto before.
Whereas the government, under President Biden's administration, hasn't really been friendly toward crypto in the past, it has been pretty harsh on crypto companies without actually spelling out clear rules. Now, it would appear that some Democrats are trying to change this narrative. They want to show the public that they too have "feelings" concerning crypto, just as Republicans do.
Organizers of the Crypto4Harris event were enthusiastic, wanting to prove that not all crypto supporters are loud Republicans. They also wanted to send a message to presidential hopeful Kamala Harris: crypto is important.
Many others are still not convinced that Democrats are serious with their declaration.
They want to see action rather than words of goodwill. Which direction it will bulldoze at this time is a guess. If Schumer is really going to compose a new law and Harris is going to support crypto, nobody knows yet.
What we do know is that crypto is a big political issue now.
Democrats and Republicans are talking about it. That may mean in the next election, people who care about crypto will have more than one choice when they vote. This will be an important change concerning the future of crypto in America. If both parties become interested in crypto, then the result may be better laws and rules for such.
Maybe it's going to help crypto grow and become useful in everyday life.
