For this post I decided to bring you another model kit review. This video is a review of the Trumpeter model of a Kawanishi type 97 flying boat in 1/144 scale. This is an older video that I made that somehow never made it to youtube until now.
This airplane was a Japanese design from the 1930s that was used in passenger service and maritime reconnaissance before the start of WW2. During the war it served as a long range reconnaissance plane for the Japanese navy. In military service, these airplanes were equipped with several defensive machine guns in various positions around the airframe to defend against fighter planes that would try to shoot them down. The U.S. gave this airplane the code name "Mavis" during the war. These airplanes were capable of flying very long range missions lasting up to 24 hours. They served through the entire war.
