Last month I posted about a visit to my local Lego store in UK. It just so happened a few days ago I went to another Lego store in central London. Normally when I pass by, there is always a long queue outside waiting to get in. There was no queue today, and I had time to spare before dinner, so I jumped right in.
London underground
With a mask of course!! And I jumped right onto the underground which is built out of Lego. I couldn't resist taking a photo next to the Queen's Guard on one side, and Shakespear on the other. Call me childish, but who wouldn't be when you're here?!!!!
London is well connected by the underground, or the Tube as we call it. Here's a simplified version of the Tube map. And a few of the famous tube stations, all built out of Lego blocks of course.
Westminster is where the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben are, guarded by a policeman. Here's a little trivia, do you know a bobby is a nickname for policman in UK?
Leicester Square is the name of the station where this store is, if you ever come to London and want to visit you know where to go. This entire stand and the lamp post, is also built out of Lego. I actually stopped and checked on the way out, but after seeing everything I saw in the store, it didn't surprise me anymore of what they were capable of building.
Another famous tube station is called Piccadilly Circus, when you see images of the busy London, often it's taken here.
British iconic objects
There are some other iconic British objects that everyone will always recognise. For instance, the red telephone box and the red pillar post box.
And here's more trivia for you. Do you know what the letters E II R means? You might have seen it on British royal documents. E II is Elizabeth the Second, our current queen. And R stands for .... not Royal, but Regina, which means queen in Latin.
Big Ben is also synonymous with London, and we saw a glimpse of it just now at the Westminster tube station sign. Here's the full view of it, it is massively tall, and I just realised this is a real clock. I hadn't noticed it in the store as there was so much to see.
And here I am on the second floor looking straight ahead at the top of Big Ben. The details are just fascinating. I wonder how long it took them to build this?
Map of London
And finally, the centre piece in the store is undoubtedly this map of London that spans across the corner of the staircase as you go upstairs. I've kept the guy in the photo so you can get an idea of how large it is. I think this is so fascinating and mesmerising to look at.
The buildings use different height Lego blocks to create a 3D effect. No matter where you stand to look at it, it still looks very real. For example the London Bridge on the corner next to the London Eye is actually built out of an entire triangle block, you can see it if you look upwards in the photo below. Likewise the boat on the River Thames is also 3D.
And from this image below, you'll see more clearly the layers and the 3D effects.
Here's the London Bridge again. It looks flat, but now you know it isn't.
And zooming into Big Ben and the red buses, you can even see the little people on the streets. Absolutely incredible!!!
PUD Guessing Contest announcement
This month I was worried this was going to be a difficult guess, but I really underestimated you guys!!!! Out of the 28 entries, 15 got it right!! This is a tap (or faucet as some parts of the world call it), and specifically the two arms on either side is an air dryer. Some of you even knew the specific brand!!! To be honest, I only saw this for the first time a couple months ago, and was very impressed with it.
Anyway, congratulations to all those who guessed correctly. You will share the 20 HBD prize pool, so each person will get 1.3 HBD. And those who powered up as well, there are 7 of you will get double, 2.6 HBD. If you won and I missed your power up, please let me know.
Last and not the least, I asked for some creative answers on what the object might be. came up with a great one a hand grip to hold on tight to as Hive makes it for the moon. Love that and let's all start to get one of these as I have a feeling we will all need it soon!! Great one Sheila, check you Hive Punk wallet https://punks.usehive.com/gallery/kaerpediem.
