Calling TV Bingers...
announced a new topic yesterday to see what the Hive community's favourite TV Box Sets/Series are. So I'm sharing what my picks are and why - feel free to rip my suggestions apart 😂
But we'd love to find out what yours are too so let us know in the comments or, if you wanted to enter the contest, write a post about it! Full details on how to enter are here!
24
One Summer in my teenage years, this was basically all I watched. I got the DVDs (yes "dee vee dee", you read that right) of series 1, 2 and 3 as a birthday present and I don't think I left my room for a week or two! The action, drama and suspense that unravels during each episode magnifies as the series goes on and all I wanted to do was watch the next episode and find out the next plot twist... loved it!
24 is about a fictional counter-terrorist unit (CTU) that has 24 hours to stop a terrorist threat with Keifer Sutherland as the main character (Jack Bauer) and each episode plays out in "real time".
Breaking Bad
Absolute classic here! My brother got me the DVDs (there's that word again) for a Christmas present as I was living in blissful ignorance of this TV series, mainly because everyone kept going on about it and I didn't jump on the bandwagon. I'm glad I didn't because I think I'd have lost my mind in the week waiting for the next episode to come... plus the adverts get in the way... so I watched the whole lot over that 10 day break and I regret nothing!
Breaking Bad is a crime drama following an unemployed chemistry teacher (Walter White played by Bryan Cranston) who is diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer but things take a turn as he starts making crystal meth with a former student (Jessie Pinkman played by Aaron Paul) to try and secure his families financial future.
Frasier
Moving away from the drama (one of my life's mottos actually 😂) is the TV comedy series of Frasier. It's set in a fictitious place in Seattle and the main characters are two extremely fussy, snobby psychiatrists who are extremely competitive with each other and end up doing some of the most ridiculous things.
There were some episodes that just had me in tears of laughter with a combination of slapstick, wit and some good old US banter thrown in. Some of the accents the characters try to do are truly abominable though - one of the main characters is "supposed to be" from Manchester in the UK but I certainly had difficulty pinning it! I was more of a Frasier fan than a "Friends" fan though #sorrynotsorry.
