Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to ponder if perhaps we would change the username we associate with Hive.
Changing Your Name
Have you ever wondered, months or years after being on Hive, if you could do it again, you would go back and pick a different username? Or a better username? That's something I was thinking about the other day!
I'm certainly not one to judge but I've seen some interesting names that are on here, ones that I wonder if people would rather change instead of keep.. I'm looking at you bro! LOL with love though :D
I was thinking the other day that if I could, I would change my username. The one I've got is unique and kind of cool, but would I have chosen something different when I went to sign up? Most likely. I don't know specifically what I would choose but I kind of wish I had given it more thought and not used this handle. It's nothing scary, dangerous or something but I think that now I would put a little more thought into the one that I choose.
With the digital platforms incorporating digital assets more and more in the future where cryptocurrency increases, potentially exponentially, it comes to bear that platforms like Hive where you have a legible username are going to become increasingly popular. The bitcoin hashes are one thing but they are nearly impossible for the average person to remember. A nice and simple username is the way to go, and we are definitely paving the way forward on that front.
With that thought, it then comes to mind that one day potentially being able to link our physical personality to this digital one in more than just posting a few pictures. What if I started an online business, and this was my avenue to plug my stuff? Going around with business cards and stuff. Yeah the name is unique and maybe a little cool to say or remember but at the same time, it's not really something I would want to say is professional. Am I too oldschool in that way? I guess so..
I don't think I would change my username to hockeyfan420 or something stupid lol but I've got some thoughts as to the more professional side that would be interesting. I won't be adding any examples here because I try to maintain that professional side enough apart from this one that gives me a tiny bit of privacy.. but inferences can be made!
I'm also not really a big fan of putting your name on it, as that introduces some other issues that can get a little thorny. I don't mind people who do put their name on it as that is their choice, but even on my other "social" accounts, I rarely put my real name and try to add a little bit of salt to the mix and throw something kind of close or some random stuff together. McLovin would have been a cool one, but that one is overplayed.
If you could pay 100, 500 Hive or something like that, would you pay to change your account name to associate it with something else? Why or why not? Let me know in the comments!
