Hello Hive,
I got commissioned to "make an artwork that depicts growth using a tree".
My client provided me a sample of another artist's work and wanted me to create something similar to what he showed me. I didn't like the idea as it wasn't original to me as an artist,so I decided to spice things up(with my client's consent of course).
A LITTLE BRIEF
I don't take a lot of progress shots for my works mainly because of two reasons: First,I don't have a very good camera and I like my works looking as close to the original as possible,so I usually take pictures of my works using a friend's phone.Hopefully,I get a better phone with a really good camera soon. Secondly,I always get so engrossed while drawing that the thought doesn't cross my mind sometimes but I've learned that I have to start documenting my process.
STEPS
- I got a 17.4x25 inches sized emburse paper
- I drew the outline for the tree
- I left the outer parts of the tree with leaves, while the body of the tree is made up of people connected by the branches
- I started to add colours
- I chose specific colours both for aesthetic purposes as well as to accurately convey my message.
- The medium used was the fusion of both color pen and pencils.
MEANING BEHIND ART
The aim, objective and message that the client wants the art to give off to viewers is growth, hence:
The tree signifies the world and how we are all connected despite our differences.
If you pay close attention, from bottom to the top,you can see the emotions on the faces gradually change from moody, unmotivated and without hope to emotions full of life, hope and happiness ,together with the colours, creating a gradation of not just the values but the characters too.
Ultimately, these features all come together in harmony to form this beautiful and colourful piece,GROWTH!!
