Decir que cualquier tipo de petición para una ilustración o dibujo es un desafío para mi es una subestimación de la verdad. No me malinterpreten, me fascina un buen desafío y cualquier oportunidad de poner a prueba mis habilidades, pero tiendo a ser muy perfeccionista conmigo misma y más aún cuando tengo que trabajar con las expectativas de otra persona, que normalmente ya tiene una idea muy específica de cómo quiere que se vea el resultado final. El famoso dicho de que “el cliente siempre tiene la razón” es muy cierto cuando se trabaja con ilustraciones por encargo, la persona puede pedir desde un estilo de dibujo que quizás no sea tu fuerte hasta que sea realizada en un periodo de tiempo muy corto y aún así tienes que hacer todo lo posible por satisfacer sus peticiones.

Así sea una ilustración “sencilla” o no tan compleja sigue siendo igual de importante y suelo abordarla con el mismo enfoque: Siempre dando lo mejor que tengo.

Con esto dicho, quiero aclarar que me gusta hacer trabajos de encargos porque es una excelente ocasión para crear algo que normalmente no haría por cuenta propia y para brindarle a la persona interesada la oportunidad de darle vida a alguna idea personal, como retratar un recuerdo, un ser querido, personalizar algún regalo o hasta esbozar un personaje original de una historia propia.

Pero hoy les voy a contar la historia de solo dos de los trabajos por encargos que fueron un reto para mi y el porqué

1er trabajo por encargo

El primer trabajo del que les quiero contar fue para el cantante principal de la banda “Los mesoneros”: Luis Jimenez, como pueden ver.

Se me encargó diseñar una ilustración exclusivamente digital de Luis J. y el perrito de la banda Bimba disfrazados de Darth Vader de Star Wars para decorar una torta de cumpleaños, todo suena bastante sencillo, ¿no?, entonces, ¿qué fue lo que me dio tanto trabajo?

Para empezar, no tenía el equipo necesario para realizar tal ilustración en el momento, solo tenía mi teléfono a la mano, y no estaba familiarizado con la interfaz de las aplicaciones para móvil de ilustraciones y la segunda razón (y la más influyente) lo necesitaban para el siguiente día.

Se pueden imaginar lo nerviosa que estaba, fue todo un desafío contrarreloj, pero la persona que hizo la petición confió en mí y me animó a darle una oportunidad. Estoy satisfecha con el resultado final y lo más importante es que le gusto al cliente y a Luis Jimenez.

2do trabajo por encargo

Este fue el primer encargo en el que trabajé en este año, y creo que se puede ver claramente cómo ha evolucionado mi arte, aun así, esta pieza también me presentó algo dificultad.

El problema principal fue la imagen de referencia que me proporcionó el cliente, era una imagen muy pequeña y muy borrosa, apenas podía diferenciar los cuerpos de las personas y mucho menos sus caras, la persona que hizo la petición me comentó que era la única foto que tenía con sus amigos más cercanos y que quería digitalizarla para hacer un regalo a distancia.

Hice todo lo posible para utilizar el estilo de ilustración que eligió para ser lo más cercana a la realidad de la imagen (aunque tuve que realizar muchos cambios en el proceso), tratando de igualar los colores de la piel de cada uno sin que la calidad de la foto y las sombras afectarán el producto final.

Di lo mejor de mi y el cliente quedó muy feliz con el resultado y eso es lo que siempre busco lograr con todos los trabajos que hago.

Two of My Most Challenging Commissioned Work and Why

To say that any kind of request for an illustration or drawing is a challenge for me is an understatement. Don't get me wrong, I love a good challenge and any opportunity to test my skills, but I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to working with someone else's expectations, who usually already has a very specific idea of ​​how they want the final result to look. The famous saying "the client is always right" is very true when working with commissioned illustrations. The person can request a drawing style that may not be your strong suit or something done in a very short period of time, and you still have to do your best to meet their requests.

Whether it's a "simple" illustration or a less complex one, it's still just as important, and I usually approach it with the same strategy: always giving it my best.

That said, I want to clarify that I like doing commissioned work because it's a great opportunity to create something I wouldn't normally do on my own and to give the interested person a chance to bring a personal idea to life, such as capturing a memory or a loved one, personalizing a gift, or even sketching an original character from their own story.

But today I'm going to tell you the story of just two of the commissioned works that were a challenge for me, and why.

First commissioned work

The first job I want to tell you about was for the lead singer of the band "Los Mesoneros": Luis Jimenez, as you can see.

I was commissioned to design an exclusively digital illustration of Luis J. and the dog from the band Bimba dressed as Darth Vader from Star Wars to decorate a birthday cake. It all sounds pretty simple, right? So, what gave me so much work?

To begin with, I didn't have the necessary equipment to create such an illustration at the time. I only had my phone on hand. I wasn't familiar with the interface of mobile illustration apps. The second (and most influential) reason was that they needed it for the next day.

You can imagine how nervous I was; it was a race against time, but the person who made the request trusted me and encouraged me to try it. I'm satisfied with the final result, and most importantly, the client and Luis Jimenez were too.

2nd commissioned work

This was the first commission I've worked on this year, and I think you can see how my art has evolved. Still, this piece also presented me with some challenges.

The main problem was the reference image the client provided. It was very small and blurry. I could barely make out the people's bodies, much less their faces. The person who made the request told me it was the only photo she had with her closest friends and wanted to digitize it to make a long-distance gift.

I did my best to use the illustration style she chose to be as close to the image's reality as possible (although I had to make many changes in the process), trying to match the skin tones of each person without the poor quality of the photo affecting the result.

I gave it my all, and the client was happy with the final product. That's what I always strive for with every project I do.
