I checked through the paintings so far and saw that I hadn’t painted a red bird. The Northern cardinal came to mind and it’s the bird I chose to paint! Red is a color that signifies energy and intense emotions. It’s a powerful color and it’s an attribute I like about the bird. A funny fact I learnt about the bird is that it is a territorial bird, and often chases other male birds out of its territory, to the point that, when it sees its image on a reflective surface, it battles its reflection seriously, lol.
PROCESS
Materials: Van Gogh Watercolor, Winsor & Newton watercolor & brushes, Sinoart sketchbook , Staedtler Pencils
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the sketch alone, I’d already started painting before I realized that. I painted my first wash layer, making sure to leave blank spaces which would later serve as highlights
I made a little mistake whilst painting the bird, I forgot to leave out the space for the branch. I corrected the mistake by using a tissue to blot out the excess paint. It helped to lighten the region a bit
Painting the hair was fun as usual. For the finishing touches, I added more layers of color to the belly of the bird as well as a bit more color to the branch.
