Today’s a really special day and to celebrate that, I chose the rose to be my subject matter. It’s been used as a symbol for love over a long period of time. The thorns of the rose are a depiction of how love might be tough sometimes but there’s always something good at the end of it. One doesn’t have to be with a partner to celebrate today, self love also counts ; )
Process
I made use of Van Gogh watercolor set, Winsor & Newton brushes, cretacolor pencils and my sinoart sketchbook
I started off with a sketch of the rose before going with my imagination for the other details. Then I got painting, I was really wary about painting the background. Id always wondered how other watercolor artists did it, the way the background was painted always seemed to make the subject of the painting stand out even more. I made use of sap green, marine blue and a little red. I added in a lot of water so it looks super light. I’m really satisfied with this painting, and I hope it reminds you to show love today!
