Hello friends,
Today, I went to our local arts & crafts shop - Michaels to spend my New Year’s gift card my hubby gave me. It was an e-gift card. I never used e-gift cards before so I thought I’ll use all the money from it because I didn’t want to get confused later.
At first I was thinking about buying something for myself and for kids.Their holiday clearance was looking good when I checked it online. When I went in person the shelves were mostly empty. So I decided not to bother with the clearance section and went to professional isles. I got Inktense paint pans, masking fluid, white wide gel pen, and a turtle art piece that my daughter wanted to try. I ended up adding a little bit more money :-)
This is how they look inside. Beautiful colors, oh I love to start new paints so much:-)
Here are color swatches. This brand has their own color names, they are not what I’m used to in standard watercolor sets.
Well let’s talk now about how I tried my new Inktense set. I heard of Inktense pencils before and the reviews looked good, but I never saw Inktense pans ( which looks like watercolors but acts a bit differently).
Materials used.
Regular pencil
Pink Eraser
White paper
Inktense pans
paper towel
- I began with a pencil sketch, but I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a pencil sketch or a painting. I was going to see how I feel after finishing the basic drawing.
I measured out the main dimensions of the cat’s face. It was always challenging for me to draw cat’s face. I always had problems with the nose area, so this time I was trying to be real careful.
I’m very happy with how it turned out, this is so far my best attempt.
Since I was all happy with the result I decided to now try my new Inktense set for coloring.
I used a brown color a base.
Then I used racing green for the shades, and I mixed teal green and kiwi color for the eyes.
I went over the darkest parts with racing green, and brown colors.
Here is the final result.
In general I’m happy with my new paint set, it acts maybe not as a real watercolor set but for simple one layer sketches works just fine. Sometimes I like my sketches to be simple.
I hope you enjoyed the process photos.
