Hello everyone it’s me again doing my daily illustration challenge. It’s really a challenge because I gotta skip entries in some other days due to some other tasks that I have to do and sometimes I was just on my art block phase when I feel like I’m not happy about what I’m doing at all, or I was just wondering if what’s the purpose of this art that I’m practicing for? Does it even matter?
But looking back and I was reminded of how I got interested with the idea of contributing my arts to some platforms, like for example sharing it here in hive platform, or to share my works to the canva graphic elements and become a canva creator someday. Doing this illustration challenge is my way of improving and exploring painting patterns until I find my own art style. I don’t know if that’s even reachable for me with this kind of art style that I have right now but I know I just have to try.
I’ve been doing digital arts since 2020 and it’s been a treasured journey for me so I don’t want it be just wasted or something like gatekeeped or unused. That is why whenever I feel like just abandoning this hobby cuz I feel like it does not give impact with my life at all, I’d be reminded how far I’ve been doing this and I just keep going back cuz this can actually give me a sense of satisfaction when I finish a piece, much more satisfied if I discover an improvement in my journey.
Something like I’ve discovered the past days is the soft glow lighting.
I made four illustrations already but I was under writer’s block so I did not make a blog for each of them one by one so I’d rather be writing this blog for them all at once since they all were painted in the same process.
This is the first one I made. This is a silicone lamp in a panda style.
Since it is a lamp, I had to think about brushes that makes a glowing effect then I remember I found that kind of brush before when I was bored and I explored all uses of ibispaint x brushes. This brush is called - Color Changing (soft light).
This is the second piece. A silicone lamp in a bunny style.
This is the third piece. A silicone lamp in a miffy style.
This is the fourth piece. A silicone lamp in a kitten style.
My art went from lack of contrast and lighting. This is my art before. We can see that it looks plain and dry.
How had this one brush changed my art quality?
Stay with me and I’m gonna walk you through the process.
- Playing with shapes for our lineart
- Airbrush for initial touch
- Paint with the neutral color, second window is paint with the darker color, last is the brightest color.
- Color Changing brush for last touch
- Add brush strokes with the same color used in the initial touch
That’s just simple as that.
And here are my color palette and brushes collection:
But even though I have achieved that soft glow lighting, I’m still asking myself if did I make it? Or did I actually improve in coloring or that is just the basics of coloring techniques? I feel like there are still details to improve so, I need your tips, and tips are appreciated.
Thank you for your time hearing out with my hobby thoughts by reading this blog. I hope you don’t let that hobby of yours just go away because you think it doesn’t matter in your life anymore but I hope you find your purpose and more purpose of why you are doing it.
That’s all, best regards.
