Marjorie Merriweather Post was the owner of General Foods, a businesswoman, socialite, and philanthropist who lived from 1887 to 1973. With incredible wealth, she had a large estate in Washington, D.C. she named Hillwood. Today Hillwood Estate and Garden is a house museum that is open to the public that holds her large collection of Russian art and has beautiful gardens. One of these gardens is a Japanese Garden complete with Japanese lantern sculptures, water features and arched bridges. The Japanese garden is my favorite place on the estate and a great place for landscape photography. I recently visited and was inspired to do an oil painting from one of my photographs.

Here are a few photos I took on my recent trip that inspired me to do a painting.
If you are ever in the D.C. area, Hillwood is worth a visit. I hope you enjoy my painting and photos.
