I love that stage, in sketching , when we work from the layout of shapes and stylized lines to more definitive line.
Watching the scribbles, themselves improvements from simple jabs at the page or art journal, as our dreamed image moves closer to a reality of sorts.
The lines darken and grow, eyes peer out at you asking for creation; wondering why they've been created. The turn of a chair leg, the line of decoration or the softness of a cushion underfoot.
Then digitally I love to play with colour stories with odd shapes and highlights to try them out.
Try out tones and colour schemes and have fun as we dream up bringing the piece more and more into our own artistic reality.
I find, however, that each iteration still feels much of a piece, as if they each want to live and not simply be hidden behind a 'final' layer whatever that might mean; for ask any artist if a piece is ever done and they'll most likely say no...the creation can go on and on and sometimes take on a life of it's own.
An endless world from a few lines scribbled on a page: the power of art.
