Hey Y'all,
Here is my first digital painting of 2022. It's a simple depiction of a walking path surrounded by trees with colorful leaves. I took the reference picture with my phone in fall 2021. IbisPaint is the app I used for this.
I'm still pretty new to digital art, it's been less than a year since I started. I like using traditional materials too, but exploring digital techniques is fun in its own way. It's great to be able to jot down ideas when I don't have access to a sketchbook or canvas.
Since I'm new, I'm learning ways to render things - like the leaves here - in a way that looks good and makes sense. IbisPaint has an extensive tutorial library that explains how to use the different tools, but there's still a learning curve. Plus, it has multiple dozens of brushes and effects (FX), with more user-created brushes available all the time.
IbisPaint free version is a great app, of course there are definitely more robust apps, and those more suited to proper design and illustration. Ultimately, I want to utilize my digital skills as a compliment to my works in traditional media, rather than become a full-fledged digital artist. So I'll keep going with Ibis until it doesn't serve me anymore. Nothin' to it but to do it.
Here's to a better year than the last 2 combined!
Until next time,
-S
