Hi Everyone!
Hello my friends, and welcome back to another installment of emanate artworx! 🌻 This time I have another colorful portrait for you, done in a style similar to my last few portraits. Today we're looking at my version of Ashley.

Inspiration
Ashley is a person who will be there for you no matter what. She's genuine and caring, and you know your secrets are safe with her. The person you call when really need someone to talk to is Ashley.
With this study, I was looking for more glow, more energy, more light! When I think of true friendship, I think of a person who doesn't judge your mistakes, someone who will stick it out with you through thick and thin--a person with a strong inner light who radiates that energy out to the world. A rare being!
To bring this concept to life, I chose bright green and intense orange, which play off each other nicely, and give Ashley a vivid presence that projects her authentic spirit.
Reflections
At the beginning stages I was really questioning what I had gotten myself into with the color choices (and my process choices 😆) because it looked blobby and very weird.
...On the plus side, I have continued to do that same daily sketch drill, and I feel like I've improved regarding speed and accuracy, especially with heads from different angles, like this one, which is titled back slightly from the viewer's perspective.
I thought about giving her a wig with a short, straight bob, but decided against it because the model looks good as is and besides, I wanted to keep this simple since it is a study, not a finished piece.
By the time I had gotten the main shading done, I realized I'd used a lot of my 3-hour timer on "perfecting" the blending in less significant areas, dang it! But I think part of that is due to working in very short spurts, like 5-15 minutes at a time, kinda lose momentum that way.
Anyway, I re-focused and used the last 25 minutes to capture the details of her eyes and lips, and finally, a simple background. If I were to flesh this one out further, I'd add details like earrings, more eye definition, (clothes!) and something else for the background, maybe an outdoor night scene.

Notes
☆This is the main brush I used for shading
☆I used blur tool (soft pastel) for blending and a layer set to blending mode screen for the brightest highlights
