How are you dear bloggers! I am with you again to bring you another post about my work. This occasion is special, as I will offer you a mini-exhibition post with a small selection of the works of this series with which I have felt more comfortable with the result.
I have decided to call this series of illustrations simply "Portrait Studies". With it I have proposed to practice the representation of the human face to understand how to place the different parts correctly. I also think it is important to learn how to draw portraits in a correct way to work in later projects or commissions that deserve it.
The representation of the human figure and especially the human face has been one of the oldest and most frequented themes in art, there have been master artists with an undoubted mastery in representing faces, such as Rembrant, Zorolla, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci and Caravagio, to name a few.
In past times both artists and students needed a model or a mirror in the case of portraying themselves, to be able to carry out this practice, and although it is true that drawing directly from life is much more beneficial for progress, it represents some extra work as it involves the protocol of looking for someone who wants to be our model or pay someone in other cases to pose for us and thus be able to practice drawing.
Nowadays in this technological era that we are living both professional artists and those who are still in training, have numerous tools for learning and implementation of creative work. For example, the reference images used in this series of portraits I have taken from Pinterest, a page with an extensive gallery of references for various creative areas. It's as easy as go in, pick and choose and get to work.
I have leaned mostly towards female portraiture, because I am strongly attracted to feminine beauty and trying to represent it is a challenge for me, and since difficulty leads to excellence I have taken the risk to try.
The technique used to create these illustrations is mixed media, seeking to integrate traditional hand drawing with digital coloring with the Photoshop tool, wanting to achieve an integration between drawing and stain, in the manner of comic illustrations, where line art is drawn with ink and colored with overlapping stains and placed in a timely manner so that the volume of the drawing takes coherence.
I have given importance to the study of portraits because I consider this an essential phase for any aspiring visual artist and particularly in my case the skill acquired will be very useful for later projects.
Soon I'll be mining this collection as NFT, being the first of my career in the world of digital art. I will be sharing the news when the time comes.
Well dear friends this has been all for this post, a little longer than usual, I hope it has been to everyone's liking. I will be with you very soon to show you the continuation of this mini-exhibition that will be presented in two parts, this being the first one. Thank you for your attention!
