A few more examples of some early wildlife art I made in 2014/15. They were created from macro photographs of weathered urban surfaces with the help of Photoshop.
Mangrove heron - streaked dribbles of paint down the back of a road-sign in Bangkok, worn and weathered by the elements. With the addition of a Pond Heron they become the tangled roots of a mangrove forest:
Fence sparrows - rusty scratches on the paint of an old oil storage tank looked to me like the wires of a fence, the perfect place for a few sparrows to perch:
Loons - the wear and stains on corrugated metal become rippled reflections and wakes as two loons (aka divers) swim across an abstract landscape of lake and sky:
Beach seal - cracked old layered paintwork mimicking the rocks, debris and seaweed of a seashore at low tide, providing a great place for a seal to haul itself out:
Cat on Ice - there's an apparent bold simplicity in the cracks of this paintwork that I turned into fragile ice for a cat to struggle over but I love the fact that there is so much variation within it, every one of those lines is different:
Gecko camouflage - the cracked patterning and worn texture of this old wall reminded me of a reptile's skin so I added a gecko trying to blend in:
Misty Mountain Flock - there are several different elements to this urban detail with layers of flaky paint, delicate networks of cracks, light scratches and uneven paintwork, all adding up to an abstract landscape of forest and misty mountains with the birds added to help people see it the way I do:
Thanks for viewing.
