I have a tiny canvas that is just sitting in the storage room for a year now and I wanted to paint something cute and landscapey. It was patiently waiting to be painted on and now's the time to do it. :D
When I say tiny, it is TINY. The canvas size is 10x10 cm (4x4 in) and it came with its own tiny easel as well haha. It's so perfect for a desk display. :D
It's so cute although the easel isn't very sturdy and easily moved. I could probably just glue it or put a stopper or something, not a big deal.
I have my professional Liquitex paints sitting in the storage as well. Some of them are unused/unopened despite having them since 4 years ago. I feel kinda guilty but also thankful that they are still in perfect condition and non of them are dried. :D
I really want something landscape for this tiny one so I looked on Pinterest for references. I just want something relaxing and doesn't require me to think, so I picked whatever is cute on Pinterest. Here is the reference photo.
I started with painting the lines.
I wanted to practice using acrylics as well since I haven't really practiced using it. Most of my training in painting was in oil and I switched to acrylics a few years ago due to the fact that solvents and inhaling oil is dangerous and I didn't have a proper studio (or ventilation specifically). I also like the vibrant colors of acrylics and I wasn't really able to explore it properly yet so this exercise is me practicing it and just learning again in general.
I forgot how freaking fast acrylic dries out since it's water based. That is why I got acrylic mediums to extend the drying time and also some fluids and other stuff. :D
I don't remember painting mountains really lol. I did in my previous painting but it was in a stylish way. I meant painting it in a natural/realistic way. I'm not big into landscapes so this reminds me of Bob Ross. :P
Vincent Van Gogh has been my biggest inspiration in painting so I was thinking of his works while doing this. I didn't want it to be realistic so I was using pthalo blues and naples yellow on the mountains.
Once i was satisfied with the mountains, I moved on to the greens.
I also added the rocks too. Can you see how tiny that brush is that I'm using? I used that for 90% of the time and I'm surprised with the amount of patience that I had lol.
And uhh I must have forgotten to take pics but I added a lot of flower colors on the greens. They are layers or dots and all that and they're so satisfying to look at (and to do as well!).
The mountains were a bit boring (and too naturalistic) to me so I added some nice blue and pink colors on it. And a few blues and pinks on the green middle ground as well. Now they look cute and vibrant!
I love the result and it's still quite close to my style even though all of it is from one reference. It only took me about 4 hours and it was finished in a day.
