After using film scenes as references for my studies, I realized I really like doing it because I love a good film composition. For this one, I want to paint something that is mostly close to my interest and just overall taste.
For this post, the screengrabs are going to be from the movie Water Lillies. I haven't watched this movie, as with many films I found on FilmGrab haha but they look like something I would be interested in. :D I also just based it on the screengrabs and haven't researched what the movie is about yet but I feel like they're gonna be artsy or something deep.
I chose a more close up shot for this one to practice painting faces. I just wanted to capture the shapes and shades though but I like how it turned out.
I'm also reading about the psychology of belongingness as I want to paint about that so I chose a scene with a group. Luckily this movie seems to be about that haha so it was easy to find a scene with what I had in mind. I'm also practicing painting with contrast both from the tonal value and colors and this was a perfect reference for that.
I also don't paint a lot of male bodies in general so I was satisfied on how they turned out. Though I think some parts still look a bit female. :P
The last one also resonates with me and my painting style. I copied the color palette from the artist Jennifer Packer, just studying the color choices and placements. I really admire her painterly style as well.
That's it for now. I'm also reading a book and just really easing myself a bit in preparation for bigger paintings. :D
