The giraffe started with geometry.
Long neck line, oval head, gentle guides for eyes and muzzle. The horns and ears were only hints. All was light and delicate - like the notion of giraffe, but not the giraffe itself.
Phase 2 - Defining “Gentle Face”
Slowly, characters emerged. The eyes softened, the nose rounded, and the ears took shape. The neck widened. You worked angles delicately, maintaining a beauty and serenity in your giraffe. Still, no heavy shading — only increasing confidence.
Phase 3 – Patterns, Depths
It was at this stage that the giraffe truly arrived. Patterns of patch color were added carefully while respecting the shape of the neck. Shadows were deepened around the facial area and under the jaw. The texture of fur features remained subtle so that the smooth beauty of the giraffe would predominate. The textures of the coarse paper provided a natural texture for the ink.
Phase 4 Standing Tall at Last
It took a full cycle The third phase was about balance. Darkest blues enhanced the spots and the eyes. The face was finished, seemed full of wisdom, and serene. There was no point in anything else. The signature “Dip” was applied delicately — a gentle ending to an epic tale.
