Hello, Hivers! It's again with another fanart to share. You see, one of my favorite games since the pandemic was Genshin Impact—I find the game's story, worldbuilding, and characters beautiful, and I couldn't help but love it! Like any other game, Genshin Impact also holds an annual summer event for the players to enjoy.
Last July, the "Summertide Scales and Tales" event featured Nilou, Navia, and Kirara, and one of the most critically acclaimed characters was the 6th of the harbingers- Scaramouche, the Balladeer. If you haven't played the game yet, SPOILER ALERT, but he became the Wanderer after the Sumeru quest. I decided to draw them after finishing the event quests, which, by the way, are so well-written and well-executed. And for today's blog, we'll start with the Wanderer. Without further ado, Here's the process:
Sketch
Using the pen above (I just found it on the Clip Studio Assets, and it's free!), I started sketching with his signature pose straight from his idle animation.
However, I intended to have this quick sketch or doodle since I was not in the mood to draw something very detailed. So, I then erased my initial sketch and opted to have him grab his hat and make him wear modern clothing for my convenience, hahaha.
Painting
At this point, I am using these brushes for painting and blending.
After cleaning the sketch a little, I started with the colors. I'll repeat it here, but painting the face is always and will forever be my favorite part—it's just so satisfying.
However, after stepping backward from my screen, I noticed something off with the character's face. So, I rendered and liquified most of the eyes and nose parts and decided to redraw some parts beyond redemption.
Then, I continued shading and blending the rest of his skin. Then, I laid out the base colors for the clothes and hat. Then, I started to render-- you know, blend, paint, erase, paint, mix again and again until I achieved my desired outcome.
Then, more rendering!!!! I'm not going to lie: This part is the most satisfying when I can finally be proud of myself for drawing my favorite characters in my style and looking very handsome (at least for me).
Then, I added some fine details and highlights to make the eyes and nose pop more and some accessories for his outfit. Sadly, I'm still not adept at drawing backgrounds, so that will stay white.
And voila! Wanderer in your area. I enjoyed working on this one, and it only took me approximately 5 hours to finish. (5 hours is fast for me since I usually take 3 days to finish a fanart without it being a forever work in progress and stuck in my gallery, hahaha.) Hope you like him too!
