I'm working towards getting my own style. I know this comes with practice and more study paintings, but I decided to do something different yesterday. I want to get a more clean look to a finished work and I think that starts with freeing go the background and choosing a more neutral color. It's something I think I achieved with the one below
I like how stylized her face is. I turned it into a heart shape and I love the skin tone.
And for today's piece, I decided to create my own stylized meerkat and experiment with lighting. It was nice deciding where the shadows and highlights would appear here since my reference had none of that. I realize that I'm getting better. I intuitively know what works. One thing I still need to work on is getting that blurry bit out. I don't know if it's just the medium or my execution. Probably both. Anyways I miss my watercolors! So I'm hoping to get back to them soon.
