Hello everyone, following my post from yesterday, yes I have now finally received my canson heritage watercolor paper I ordered and I'm super excited to be using it. It contains 12 sheets. Watercolor is my first love. It has been two months of painting digitally and I missed the feel of holding a brush and dipping it in water.
I decided to paint a rooster today because I had a loose style of painting in mind. I didn't plan on using my micron pens but in the end, I felt that it would hell with bringing out the contrast for this piece, so I did.
Here is the final result.
This style of painting is called line and wash. The wash refers to the use of watercolor in the number of layers you wish to paint in and the line refers to your use of an inking pen before or after painting it. In my case, I inked after painting. It is very crucial to use ink of archival quality so it does not smear as it can turn into an ugly mess very quickly if your ink is not water resistant. Most people use micron pens as they have this quality and I happened to have some around.
I started with a sketch of the rooster
I used a 2b pencil as I could not find my hb around. Then I proceeded to lay the first wash of paint. I painted predominantly with yellow pale, orange yellow, gambohe which I mixed a bit of the orange to get yellow ochre since I couldn't find where I'd kept my paint tube. I also painted with some ultra marine blue and burnt sienna as well as crimson red. My watercolor is of the art rangers brand.
Then I waited for it to dry before painting another layer
I waited some more for it to dry before painting some darker washes before deciding to cut up the background the way I did and using my micron pens.
Cheers😁
