Sometimes it's hard for me to be patient with my creative process, especially when I don't have much knowledge in any branch of art or any specific technique, so, if something doesn't come out the first time or it takes me a long time to get it right, I probably get discouraged and days or weeks go by before I try again.
I'm starting with this introduction because it's been weeks since I've shared a drawing or any progress in digital drawing, and it's been more or less for this reason. I promise you that I'm working on improving this part of me, I'm a true believer that practice makes perfect, but the perfectionist Nicole in my head sometimes clouds my mind.
Today I want to share with you some achievements I've made this week around this topic, and that is, I drew my first realistic color portrait of an animal, and the best part, in digital!
I like to draw realism, but usually the protagonists are usually people or foreshortenings of human bodies, so this time I decided to vary the theme and draw one of my beloved cats.
Process:
First, I worked the body figure with quick lines that I then defined with strokes of another color. As you can see, it is a simple sketch, because I knew that the difficulty would come at the moment of making the fur.
I placed the sketch layers in multiply mode and locked them, under them I added a new layer and started to add the base colors of my cat's fur and some general shades and shadows.
When I started to make this drawing, I had no idea how I would do to draw the fur, I didn't know completely the technique or the tools I could use for it, but thanks to my good friend Youtube, I saw a few tutorials that helped me to learn how to create a special brush that would serve me to draw in a natural way each hair.
I tried not to focus completely on one area of the drawing but to take turns drawing in several areas, this way I would have a broader view of the result I was getting in the drawing. At this point I had to play with several tools at once, including 3 different brushes, the finger tool and the opacities with which I was making the strokes.
I was so nervous that the eyes wouldn't look good... but in the end it wasn't like that, with a lot of patience and observation I managed to make each eye with their respective shadows and illumination. I accentuated a little more the shadow of the face and added some details especially in the area of the muzzle... however, there was something that still didn't make me feel satisfied.
Final result:
After some thought and testing, I decided that the drawing should have a flat background. I added the whiskers (I almost forgot them) and I signed the drawing.

I hope you liked this drawing as much as I did, I really feel proud to have achieved this result, no matter how long it took me to get it (I spent almost a week working on it), I think it was worth it.

En ocasiones me cuesta ser paciente con mi proceso creativo, especialmente cuando no tengo tanto conocimiento en alguna rama del arte o alguna técnica en específico, así que, si algo no me sale en la primera oportunidad o me toma mucho tiempo lograr que me salga bien, probablemente me desanime y pasen días o semanas antes de volver a intentarlo.
Inicio con esta introducción porque hace semanas que no comparto algún dibujo o cualquier avance en el dibujo digital, y ha sido más o menos por esta razón. Les prometo que estoy trabajando en mejorar esta parte de mí, soy fiel creyente que la práctica hace al maestro, pero la Nicole perfeccionista que hay en mi cabeza a veces me nubla la mente.
Pese a esto, el día de hoy quiero compartir algunos logros con ustedes que he hecho esta semana en torno a este tema, y es que, dibujé mi primer retrato realista a color de un animal, y lo mejor ¡en digital!
Me gusta dibujar realismo, pero generalmente los protagonistas suelen ser personas o escorzos de cuerpos humanos, así que en esta ocasión decidí variar la temática y dibujar a uno de mis queridos gatos.
Proceso:
Primero, trabajé la figura de cuerpo con líneas rápidas que luego definí con trazos de otro color. Como ven, es un boceto simple, pues sabía que la dificultad entraría al momento de realizar el pelaje.
coloqué las capas de boceto en modo multiplicar y las bloqueé, debajo de ellas añadí una nueva capa y empecé a añadir los colores base del pelaje de mi gato y algunos matices y sombras generales.
Cuando empecé a hacer este dibujo, no tenía ni idea de cómo haría para dibujar el pelaje, desconocía completamente la técnica o las herramientas que podía usar para ello, pero gracias a mi buen amigo Youtube, vi unos cuantos tutoriales que me sirvieron para aprender a crear un pincel especial que me serviría para dibujar de forma natural cada pelo.
Traté de no enfocarme completamente en un área del dibujo sino tomar turnos para dibujar en varias áreas, de este modo tendría una visión más amplia del resultado que estaba obteniendo en el dibujo. En este punto tuve que jugar con varias herramientas a la vez, entre ellas, 3 pinceles diferentes, la herramienta de dedo y las opacidades con las que hacía los trazos.
Estaba tan nerviosa porque los ojos no me quedaran bien… pero al final no fue así, con mucha paciencia y observación logré hacer cada ojo con sus respectivas sombras e iluminación. Acentué un poco más la sombra del rostro y añadí algunos detalles especialmente en el área del hocico… sin embargo, había algo que aún no me hacía sentir satisfecha.
Resultado final:
Tras meditarlo y hacer varias pruebas, decidí que el dibujo tuviera un fondo plano. Añadí los bigotes (por poco se me olvidan) y di por culminado el dibujo firmándolo.

Espero que les haya gustado este dibujo tanto como a mí, realmente me siento orgullosa de haber logrado este resultado, no importa el tiempo que me tomó conseguirlo (estuve casi una semana trabajando en él) , considero que valió la pena.
