Happy new year and happy first Sunday Hivers, it's pretty overwhelming to me how 2021 went by so fast and as I think about it, it makes me want to keep track of my activities and moments in 2022 better cos in no time, I might just find myself in 2023 with few moments to show for. But anyways, I'm glad we made it past another 365. I can only wish for the best this year, both for me and you and for the hive.
Anyways, I've made a commitment within myself this year and that would be me creating more artworks and sharing my art stories and experiences more on here. There was alot of inconsistency on my side last year but I want to do better this year and I'd be glad to have an accountability partner that could help me see it through.
With that being said, here's an artwork I finished before the end of 2021
Title: Untitled
Size: 16 * 18
Materials: charcoal pencil, blending smudge, brushes, graphite Pencils( hb and 4b), charcoal powder, eraser.
It's untitled, I was trying to learn a few things with this piece like free hand sketching, detailing and shading values. From the look of it, I still have to work on my free hand sketching and detailing.
Started out by creating my sketch with my HB pencil..
I scribbled my charcoal pencil all over the hair section to create the curly hair texture, then used a small piece of my eraser to dab strokes randomly on the hair to add some realistic effects.
I used my blending smudge to smudge the shaded charcoal on the forehead section after I had smoothen the surface with my brush.
Here's a sample of what a good brush can do on your artwork.. it smoothened my charcoal strokes
The little piece of eraser I cut out of my eraser is responsible for the highlight on the eye.. it worked almost like a tumbo monozero.
I'm sorry, I skipped some of the progress shots because I got carried away while working on this piece, I'll capture more progress shots on my future pieces.
I was pretty happy with myself based on what I was able to do on the necklace, that's where my graphite pencil (4b) came into action, I used it to shade lightly on the jewel area so it would reflect it.
And that's all I have for y'all today.. don't hesitate to criticize and also interact with me in the comments section.
I wish y'all the best of 2022.
Happy new year once again ✌🏽😊
