It’s been a while since I last shared a detailed creative process with you; I haven’t felt very motivated lately, but today I felt inspired to show you this drawing I did a while back. On this occasion, I wanted to sit down with my pencils and let my creativity flow at a time when I had no light (literally, Venezuela be like) 🤭
My initial intention was to create a horror drawing that would retain some of my fascination with the character of Kuromi in its essence, but, to my surprise, it ended up being quite an adorable drawing (albeit a bit strange, I know). However, I was very pleased with the result; it has a somewhat alternative and charming style 💖

Tenía tiempo sin compartirles un proceso creativo detallado, ultimamente no me he sentido muy motivada en general, pero hoy me sentí inspirada para mostrarles este dibujo que había realizado ya hace un tiempo. En esta ocación, quise sentarme con mis lápices y dejar fluir mi creatividad en un momento que no tenía luz (literalmente, Venezuela be like) 🤭
Mi intención al principio era realizar un dibujo de terror que mantuviera un poco mi fascinación por el personaje de kuromi en su esencia, pero a mi sorpresa, acabó siendo un dibujo bastante adorable (aunque un poco extraño, lo sé). Sin embargo, quedé muy satisfecha con el resultado, tiene un estilo un tanto alternativo y coquette 💖

It all began by colouring the sketch with very light strokes of red. I tried starting with colours instead of using traditional graphite to ensure a cleaner finish. In the first photos, you can see how I defined the features and began to mark the shadowed areas under the neck and on the shoulders, using a deep blue to create depth right from the start.
Todo comenzó pintando el boceto con un trazo muy suave en rojo. Probé empezar con colores en lugar de usar el grafito tradicional para que el acabado final sea más limpio. En las primeras fotos pueden ver cómo definí las facciones y empecé a marcar las zonas de sombra bajo el cuello y en los hombros utilizando un azul profundo para dar profundidad desde el inicio.

I wanted to continue adding depth to the eyes. I decided to give them a bluish tint to contrast with the warmth of the skin. I also applied some soft initial layers of peach and pink, leaving areas blank to allow for the natural highlights on the face.
Quise continuar dándole profundidad a los ojos. Decidí darles un tono azulado que contrastara con la calidez de la piel. Apliqué también unas primeras capas suaves de color durazno y rosa, dejando espacios en blanco para las luces naturales del rostro.

We moved on to the hair. This was my favourite part and the one that took me the longest. I wanted the hair to have lots of movement, so I worked with long strokes following the direction of the hairstyle. I generally let myself be guided by the process, so I combined different shades of violet and blue to create highlights. I loved experimenting with the volume, the shades and their gradation. I then worked on the accessories, such as the necklace and the headband with rounded ends.
Continuamos con el cabello. Esta fue mi parte favorita y la que más tiempo me tomó. Quería que el cabello tuviera mucho movimiento, así que trabajé con trazos largos siguiendo la dirección del peinado. Por lo general me dejo llevar en su elaboración, así que combiné diferentes tonos de violeta y azul para crear reflejos. Me encantó experimentar con el volumen, los tonos y su degradación. Trabajé consecutivamente con los accesorios, como el collar y la diadema con puntas redondeadas.

For the top (her outfit), I used a gradient ranging from a soft orange to more reddish tones, creating what I felt was a harmonious contrast with her cool-toned hair.
Para el top (su vestuario), utilicé un degradado que va desde un naranja suave hasta tonos más rojizos, creando un contraste a mi parecer armonioso con el cabello frío.

Once I’d finished painting my character, I added eyelashes and wanted to frame it with a background that would match it; however, on this occasion I didn’t take any photos of the process. But basically I was drawing objects and characters related to Kuromi, such as the spade symbol, her companion Baku, skulls, bats, etc. This part was a bit flat, but it was what came to mind at the time. Finally, I painted them layer by layer and decided to use a light blue as a base, so that the tone would relate solely to the eyes of my human Kuromi and stand out.
Una vez culminé de pintar a mi personaje, le agregué pestañas y quise enmarcarlo con un fondo que le hiciera juego, sin embargo, en esta ocación no tomé fotos del proceso. Pero básicamente iba dibujando objetos y personajes que tuvieran relación con kuromi como el símbolo de picas, su compañero Baku, las calaveras, los murciélagos, etc. Esta parte fue algo plana, pero fue lo que se me ocurrió al momento. Finalmente, los pinté capa por capa y decidí aplicar como base un color azul claro, para que así el tono tuviera relación únicamente con los ojos de mi Kuromi humana y resaltara.
Drawing this character reminded me how much I enjoy experimenting with warm colours. I didn’t want to convey technical perfection, but rather a more original and distinctive essence, although not everyone close to me found it appealing or interesting. But far from discouraging me, I felt that perhaps I see beauty differently, which might work in my favour when developing a personal aesthetic.

Dibujar este personaje me recordó lo mucho que disfruto experimentar con los colores cálidos. No quise transmitir una perfección técnica, sino una esencia más original y diferente, aunque no a todos mis allegados les pareció atractiva o interesante. Pero lejos de desmotivarme, sentí que tal vez veo la belleza de manera distinta, lo que puede que me funcione al fomentar una estética personal.
