The pressures of the earth have created a new lifeform.
It fused together minerals and organic materials with a one in a trillion chance where organic living matter became fused with crystal structures.
Now it survives in the high pressure environment by liquifying material around it to find suitable materials to ingest.
As it liquifies surrounding materials it forms deep underground caves full of petrochemicals.
On the surface of the earth humans have discovered they can burn this for fuel.
As the living diamond moves from region to region the humans follow it to extract their precious commodity.
The overall result will be a hollow earth with most of the material expelled into the atmosphere.
The long term plan is to eventually move humans underground as the atmosphere will get too polluted to live in.
While colonies are developed deep underground the humans need energy and the living diamond needs material to ingest. Soon a society develops where a percentage of the humans are sacrificed to the living diamond for energy in a synergistic existence.
