Splinterlands Art Contest Entry
Finally, I'm posting on time xd. I posted my last two entries after the results were declared lolz. That's on me because I kinda messed up when I converted the CST timezone to IST. Yeah I know I should have asked someone on discord but I forgot about that too, Yay!
I asked a friend 2 days ago and found out that according to IST, the submission day is on Sunday at 3:30 am. That makes sense considering the results were always declared on Monday hehe. Although it would be hard posting during that time unless I use the scheduling feature but it's fine If I post now since the results have not declared yet, right?. Anyway, ignore my puny brain and let's get down to business haha.
Spirit of the forest
I chose her because I'm someone who seldom uses green in my paintings. I wanted to try it out with this one since she is a spirit of the forest after all and the forest represents greenery. If you look at the official design the character looks like she is in her teenage years and the overall plant design on her looks like she is still not in the flowering stage perhaps.
Maybe I'm taking gibberish but my new design is an adult version of the spirit and she is in her full potential in her fully bloomed state hence the idea for the flower attached behind her back.
As for the colour combo here, I struggled a bit to find the matching colours for her accessories and clothes but I eventually figured it out after lots of experimentation with the hue slider. I knew red complements green but I was unsure about where to apply it. Eventually, I decided that instead of using it as the background colour I painted the clothes red and it worked.
I got this beautiful pose reference from Pinterest to draw her body. I was attracted to the hand gesture here. It gave me the spirit/fairy vibes hence I selected it hehe.
The process
A suggestion was pointed out by my friend to correct leg anatomy. I didn't see it at first but I saw the mistake when I compared it again with the reference image just now so I redrawn the leg area again. The final result is as show below. Thank you Hanzel :)
I made a minimalist background with some trees here and there to create the feel of a forest but didn't want to add leaves because when viewed at her height, people will mostly see the branches plus it will ruin the hair design since it's green as well. She is the forest spirit so obviously, we have to add some butterflies. The hand gesture is just perfect for that so I added one there and one randomly on her petal. As for the final touch, I used the flower brush to add those flowers in the background and blurred the background so that the focus should be on the Spirit itself.
That's about it guys. I had fun redesigning her in my style.
