WITHOUT SPOILERS 馃槄
Beyond the interesting, involving and complex plot of this Netflix series, we were also caught by an excellent handling of photography and scenery, as well as a soundtrack that gives goose bumps, generating a perfect balance between adventure, suspense and mystery.
We decided to convey our appreciation for the series with this illustration inspired by the iconic yellow suit they wear when it comes to spaces involving radioactive exposure.
SIN SPOILERS 馃槄
M谩s all谩 de lo interesante, envolvente y compleja que es la trama de esta serie de Netflix, tambi茅n nos atrap贸 un excelente manejo de la fotograf铆a y escenograf铆a, adem谩s de una banda sonora que pone la piel de gallina generando un balance perfecto entre aventura, suspenso y misterio.
Decidimos transmitir nuestro agrado por la serie con esta ilustraci贸n inspirada en el ic贸nico traje amarillo que usan cuando se trata de espacios que suponen exposici贸n radioactiva.
As always we start with the sketching process in the program Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, using a laptop/tablet branded ASUS with a stylus pen Bamboo Ink Pen branded Wacom.
We have no direct relationship with the brands mentioned.
We use a reference image of the suit to start the sketch, we focus first on outlining the suit with some details and then the whole scene with the background.
Como siempre empezamos con el proceso de bocetaje en el programa Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, usando una laptop/tablet marca ASUS con un l谩piz stylus Bamboo Ink Pen de la marca Wacom.
No tenemos ninguna relaci贸n directa con las marcas mencionadas.
Usamos una im谩gen de referencia del traje para empezar el boceto, nos enfocamos primero en delinear el traje con algunos detalles y luego la escena completa con el fondo.
Then we start with the characteristic yellow color of the suit along with some textures. We use two darker colored layers for the shadow and one layer for the illumination because later on we will add another layer of generalized illumination.
Luego empezamos con el caracter铆stico color amarillo del traje junto con algunas texturas. Usamos dos capas de color m谩s oscuro para la sombra y una capa de iluminaci贸n porque m谩s adelante agregaremos otra capa de iluminaci贸n generalizada.
Continuing with the details of the suit, we also completed the dark parts... The belt, gloves and boots. To which we also added some texture, and their respective layers of shadow and lighting.
Continuando con los detalles del traje, tambi茅n completamos las partes oscruras... El cinturon guantes y botas. A lo que tambi茅n l eagregamos algo de textura, y sus respectivas capas de sombra e iluminaci贸n.
With the relatively smart suit, the main "thing" in the background is the dark matter sphere.
Excuse me, if you haven't started seeing it even the first season maybe this is a bit of a spoiler, but we won't spoil any big surprises for you.
The dark matter of the illustration overwhelmed us a bit at first but then with a brush of wet material we achieved the effect we wanted, many layers with different shades of blue and black were necessary to achieve it.
Con el traje relativamente listo, la "cosa" protagonista en segundo plano es la esfera de materia oscura.
Disculpa, si no la has empezado a ver ni siquiera la primera temporada quiz谩s esto si sea un poco de spoiler, pero no te arruinaremos ninguna sorpresa.
La materia oscura de la ilustraci贸n nos abrum贸 un poco al principio pero luego con un pincel de material humedo logramos ele efecto que quer铆amos, muchas capas con diferentes tonos de azul y negro fueron necesarias para lograrlo.
Having our subject and dark matter relatively ready, we gave ourselves the task of bringing the backgorund scene to life, with various shades of light and shadows to give it depth and volume.
Al tener nuestro sujeto y materia oscura relativamente listos nos dimos la tarea de darle vida al escenario, con varios tonos de luz y sombras para darle profundidad y volumen.
Now one of the most important things in our illustration is the sphere of light and the light effect it gives on what this scenario of darkness is supposed to be. We simply made white concentric circles with very low opacity around the sphere.
Ahora una de las cosas m谩s importantes de nuestra ilustraci贸n es la esfera de luz y el efecto luminoso que da en lo que se supone este escenario de oscuridad. Simplemente hicimos c铆rculos conc茅ntricos blancos con opacidad muy baja al rededor de la esfera.
To complete the luminous effect of the sphere we also add white dots as dust particles floating in the air. In different layers and different sizes to simulate distance and volume.
Also in the suit we added a delicate white glow from the left, responding to the brightness of the sphere, and from the right a slightly blue reflection from the dark matter behind it.
Para completar el efecto luminoso de la esfera tambi茅n agregamos puntos blancos en semejanza a particulas de polvo flotando en el aire. En diferentes capas y diferentes tama帽os para simular distancia y volumen.
Adem谩s en el traje agregamos un delicado brillo blanco desde la izquierda, respondiendo al brillo de la esfera, y desde la derecha un reflejo un poco azul proveniente de la materia oscura que est谩 detr谩s.
Finally, the suit's visor needed a little attention so we added the reflection of the light sphere. We completed the whole illustration with some textures and vignette-like shadows in the background.
Por 煤ltimo el visor del traje necesitaba un poco de cari帽o asi que le agregamos el reflejo de la esfera de luz. Completamos toda la ilustraci贸n con algunos toques de textura y sombras tipo vi帽eta en el fondo.
