Came up with this tonight. Would love to say this wasn't based on someone else's illustration but that would be a lie.
Here's the original illustration, the cover for what must have been one of my favorite book's growing up, Roald Dahl's The BFG, illustrated by Quentin Blake, who was probably as important for the success of Dahl's books as Dahl's stories itself. His illustrations were also a big reason for my siblings and me to keep getting back to these books and to now read them to the next generation.
Let's be honest, Dahl without Blake wouldn't have been the same.
This book is lying next to me. I hope and trust it will get me back into my creative flow, again, after having been down with a cold for almost 5 days now.
If you look closely, you will notice that the mice - or other critters - loved it too, especially the corners.
Or perhaps they respect the story enough to know where to stop feeding on it.
Oh and in case you wondered...
What's up with the colors?
I took a picture of my blue pen, quick copy of the BFG, holding it in front of a lamp ( as it's evening here ). It was then that an oil pastel drawing, that was more like random, intuitive coloring, shone through. I was drawing the BFG on the other side of the paper, unaware of this.
At least it added some originality to the whole.
In fact, I liked it enough to share here
If you ask me, if Andy Warhol would have done this with his Campbell soup cans or his Madonna art, they would have looked a lot better ;^)
Enjoy your creative journey ( called life ) and don't forget to express yourself. After all, expression is the opposite of depression and oppression.
