Hello everyone! First of all,
Happy Women's Day to all women 🌷
Today I'm going to share a drawing I did today evening in my sketchbook. I did it for Women's Day as it is an important day for us women because we always have to fight for our rights and sometimes these include basic human rights. I'm really grateful that right now I am privileged because the women before me fought for all the rights we got now.
On this special day, I would also like to express my gratitude that I have plenty of empowered women in my life who inspire me to keep working to be the best version of myself.
The Process
I started the drawing with the face shape. I actually used my own picture to check so I can get the proportions right to an extent.
Then, I drew the eyes one by one. I tried to make them look similar but I guess it's not so bad because they should look like sisters and not twins. I also added the nose and some light shading for the hair. This is how I style my hair too with a side parting and side bangs.
I drew the rest of the hair and adjusted the nose a little. I also added a tiny chin cleft because I think it makes people look cute. My hair is wavy actually but as it dries after wash day, it gets straighter. So some parts look straight while some still look wavy. I added pupils to the eyes and drew the lips as well. I had to erase a part of the hair later as I wanted to add something more to the artwork.
Now comes the challenging part. I wanted to add a little kajal which is a traditional eyeliner so she looks like she is applying kajal to her eyes. However drawing the hand was so difficult and I had to draw, erase, redraw and repeat multiple times. I even took selfies of myself holding things to see how my hand looks like. After many eraser shavings, I finally managed to draw something that looks like a real hand. I could not take another moment of erasing anymore so this pose had to be it. I also seem to have caught some kind of flu probably in my recent outing which made me cranky.
I added some shadows everywhere on the face like the hollows of cheeks, the eyelids and all around the forehead and the chin as well. Then, I added more eyeliner, mascara and some lipstick. I felt like I was doing makeup for a 2D person. I also shaded the kajal hard in burnishing technique so it stands out. Then, I shaded her hand too to make it look more like a hand especially the thumb.
This is my final artwork and I called it done. I hope to make more sketches soon and this was a good warm up exercise for me as I didn't sketch for a long time.
These are some final pictures of the drawing on my table. Did you notice that my table is in hot pink? I wanted to show it today because I thought it adds a pop of colour. By the way, she does not look like me, except for the hairstyle.
I don't know if there's a glitch today on Ecency app but the alpha properties on images are not working unfortunately. So I'm using a different bitmoji. Thank you for dropping by and once again I wish all women a Happy Women's Day =)
