Shraddh also ( Pitra Karm ) , in Hinduism, a ceremony performed in honour of a dead ancestor. The ritual is both a social and a religious responsibility enjoined on all male Hindus . The importance given in India to the birth of sons reflects the need to ensure that there will be a male descendant to perform the shraddha ceremony after one’s death .
What people do in shraaddh is , they prepare delicious food without using Onions & Garlics to serve them to the Bramhman ( the priest ) as a representative of Lord Narayan who's the Supreme Godhead Personality believed so that the holy spirits of there ancestors . & They perform a Pind pooja , which means they'll make small rice cakes by mixing up sesame seeds , curd , milk & Ghee & then they do some rituals with them as per tradition with the help of their priest .
In this tradition people have got very strong beliefs about afterlife so they consider doing Shraaddh for their ancestors is their duty .
