Hace unos años el gato de la casa llamado Catire Misuma estaba herido, tenía un absceso en la base de su cola, decidimos llevarlo al veterinario, cosa que no resultó ser nada fácil debido a que no contábamos con un transportín o kennel, terminamos arañadas y mordidas debido a que lo llevamos cargado. Ese día todos aprendimos que el que tiene un gato debe tener uno.
Ahora bien, existe otro punto de vista en esta historia y es el del gato, unos cuantos de ellos, odian el transportín o kennel, quiero dedicar esta publicación para darte algunas referencias de porqué debes tener uno, como elegirlo y como relacionar a tu gato con él de manera positiva.
Lo primero que te diré es que existen cualquier cantidad de modelos y marcas, colores y hasta formas, pero básicamente se dividen en tres flexibles, semirrígidos y rígidos. De la misma manera hay desde los mas económicos hasta los más costosos, también de variada calidad, dependiendo de su material. En este último punto hay que incluir el uso y cuidado que le des.
¿Por qué necesitas uno?, cómo pudieron leer en la introducción de no tener un kennel o transportín llevar a tu gato al veterinario, que por cierto es el uso mas común que le damos,será toda una aventura.
En mi caso tengo varios kennel, uno por cada gato, me imagino que pensaras ¿para qué tantos si con uno basta? Ahora, ¿dónde puedes adquirir un kennel? Pues la primera opción son las tiendas de mascotas, algunas clínicas veterinarias tienen tiendas allí el veterinario o el personal de la tienda, te puede ayudar a escoger el más indicado, ya que tu gatito debe estar cómodo en su kennel o transportín no debe ser un espacio muy reducido sobre todo si usarás el kennel para un viaje largo. En tiendas por Internet también puedes adquirirlo, por ejemplo Amazon, Mercado Libre Ebay, entre otras.
Existe un tema muy, pero muy impotente, ¿como relacionar al gato con el transportín?. Muchos gatos ven uno y simplemente salen corriendo, se esconden ya que lo relacionan con algo negativo y las razones son simples sus experiencias con el kennel han sido estrésantes, el salir de su zona de confort subir a un vehículo, escuchar el ruido en la calle, voces desconocidas, cornetas, el motor del vehículo, para ellos es terrible, si además de eso solo lo usas para llevarlo al veterinario que para ellos es otra experiencia traumática pues creeme que cada vez que requieras trasladar a tu gato se esconderá y deberás buscarlo, a veces durante horas, creeme, me ha sucedido.
Pero esto lo puedes cambiar o evitar, la manera es mostrarle a tu gatito que ese transportín o kennel no es solo una fuente de estrés, te haré una lista de lo que yo utilice para algunos de mis gatos y me funcionó
🌺 Preséntale el transportín o kennel. Deja que tu gato conozca el Kennel, luego de comprarlo déjalo en algún lugar donde el tenga acceso para que pueda olerlo e ir relacionándose con él.
🌺 Parte interior. Lo segundo sería abrirlo para que tu bolita de pelos entre por su propia voluntad y tal vez hasta de una siesta en su interior.
🌺 Refuerzo positivo. Lo tercero introdúcelo en el kennel cierralo por poco tiempo, y al dejarlo salir premialo con alimento, también podrías poner dentro del transportín Capnit para que no se estrese y relacione el bolso con una experiencia positiva.
🌺 Alarga el tiempo. Si compraste el Kennel porque te vas a mudar o viajarás te recomendo que intoduzcas a tu gato en el kennel y alargues cada vez un poco mas su tiempo dentro, también podrías dar paseos de cada vez mayor tiempo para que se acostumbre poco a poco a estar dentro del mismo.
Algo que he aprendido a reconocer es el reforzamiento positivo ayuda a disminuir el estrés de las salidas y el uso del Kennel en los gatos.
Para finalizar es muy importante que si vas a realizar un viaje en avión consúltes con la línea aérea las especificaciones que solicitan para el kennel o transportín, así podrás comprar el mas adecuado y no perderás tu dinero, además de que tu gatito viajará cómodo y seguro.
