Welcome back, readers! While I was reading my twitter feed at work today, I was shocked that the Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad had resigned from his post with effect from 1 pm today. This was such a surprising move by him as he said in one of the press conferences that he wanted to resign after the APEC meeting in November. I believed that the subject is now trending on Twitter.
I had read all the possible causes of the resignation and the most plausible reason is that some of his party members had betrayed him by joining with UMNO and PAS, the main opposition parties in Malaysia. While countries were grappling with the coronavirus affecting their country, another problem had emerged in Malaysia. The last time I followed Malaysian politics in earnest was during the Malaysian General Elections in 2018 where the coalition headed by Tun Mahathir won against the incumbent Barisan Nasional. I hope that Malaysia will be able to cope with the political and health crisis. All the best for my neighbour! Signing off! Sejuk!
