Now, the history of Berlin and it's wall is known around the world, the conflict betwen the East side and the West side, representing - in a way - the problems between capitalism and communism, the influence of Europe and the US vs the influence of the USSR. So, I'm not going to bore you with the history, I bet there are countless of posts around the web talking about this, where authors tell their readers about their amazing experience in Berlin.
No, i'm not gonna do that, instead I'm going to give you a full tour with this monster size gallery of th East Side gallery, the most colorful part of the wall - and probably Berlin - and let you enjoy my side comments to each of these pieces.
I hope you like this gallery and my little effort to show you around:
"Lead me on my dreams among different time and space. To share hope with nations and believers to observe with modesty the pure truth, and to reveal prudently the magic and mistery."
These are just a few pictures showing how the wall just goes on an on for kilometers, it is simply underwhelming to just take a look around all this art from different people from all over the world, united towards one sentiment: The relief of being one, the happinness of having this wall tear down and let families and history be together once again.
Every three, four meters there's a new piece of art, street art, my favorite. Walking next to these pieces, watching all these Berliners walk by and drive past through not giving a damn about the history and all the sould engraved here, representing all the suffering from some, the problems of others and the emotions of a whole country that was divided by politics and agendas. Granted, they live here, maybe it is normal for them, but it sure as hell isn't for me, and I hope that after your tour here, it won't be for you.
Look at the date: 21.03.1990 - Imagine this has been there for more than 30 years and it is still well preserved, colorful and expressing the author's feelings. Picture it, street art well preserved after 30 years, that'g otta count for something, isn't it?
For everything that lives on earth! worry about what life needs.
To me, this one feels like the souls of those who felt in darkness and without a future, waiting for the world's issues to solve just so they can go back to try to make a living and enjoy their day by day.
Many little people who do a lot of little things in many small places, can alter the face of the world.
Mom, I'm in Berlin
How many families were torn apart? How many children were ripped out from their mothers and fathers by this wall? This art is deep in a level where it is not about the quality, but the mssage it sends...
You have leraned what freedom means, never forget that
The big Kremlin's Wind
Moscow was the biggest influence in East Berlin, the Communist side of the Berlin wall. This art really represents the Latin pharse above: Time Flies.
Mother earth and it's roots, coming out of Europe and flourishing again after the dark times. The universe behind, to show us how little we are against everything around us. The representation that, even after the biggest problems, there is still hope for a new beginning.
Russian: In the midst of this deadly love.
German: My God, please help me to survive this deadly love.
Homosexuality was a big deal back then with all the politics involved and the communist regime in the east side of the wall. This picture really represents what some people had to face every day of their life and, once the wall was teared down, the freedom they felt to express their feelings.
Puppets of a sold piece
I have no idea what christianity has to do with this, perhaps it is the religious issue between ortodox church and christianity, the two sides of the coin in the Berlin wall. You can appreciate how the marionettes are running away from the cross and the man above the cliff, and how two of them are already controlled, while on of them is still struggling to escape. It may represent how the Church controls our destinies and how it influences our life.
This conflict didn't affect just Germany and Russia alongside the neighbouring countries, it also affected the whole world, wether by direct influence or by economical consequences.
Diagonal solution to the problems
This is a strong piece. It represents - for me - how we are sometimes coerced or controlled into supporting omething or someone because we have no other choice but to do so.
This one really got into me. Do you see the metal door there? It's got several chainlocks attached there. I have no idea what it means, but I can only imagine how lovers were separated fro years and decades and how lives were torn apart, and how their love was the only thing that kept them going.
The empire of the rising sun. Japan was also affected by this situation that lasted decades and ended in 1988, this piece of art represents - to me - the support of Japan towards the demolition of the wall.
Don't forgive me, love
Is this paradise, where all the casualties of this war went... or is this just where they were hoping to go to after the conflict was finished...?
French: I remember
What wonderful dreams keep my mind from falling over.
This saying man, this phrase. Imagine being deprived of your loved ones, your old life and being dragged into a political issue that will benefit just a handful... you're nowhere to be seen, you have nowhere to go and all you can do is to try and start a new life with the cards that were dealt to you and, all you have to keep yourself from drowining, are your dreams. How many people didn't have just dreams for decades, died with those dreams in their minds, never fulfilled them and yet, kept on fighting every day. Indeed, these dreams keep my mind from falling over.
And, as always, the last picture is me, along the wall, just so you know I was there and this little gallery trully is mine :)
The picture quality is crap because my selfie mode camera broke and the light is refracted, sorry about that :(
