It was around 6am yesterday and I was just coming out for my morning jog. I got out of the gate and started my jog, but just 100m away from my house, I heard a strange animal sound that caught my attention, but during the jog, I schemed my eye through the grasses in a small ditch but couldn't see what was making the sound.
Fast forward 8 hours later that day when I was heading to the local market to get ingredients to cook jollof rice, and I heard the sound again. This time I stopped and properly searched through the bushes and there she was, shaking in the cold and looking so scared
I'm not what you'll call an animal lover and I quite frankly don't even know what to do with them. For example, I'm still very much petrified of birds and I'm pretty sure Lizards are devilish but with this cat, it really felt like love at first sight.
When I saw her in the bushes, she was shaking and really scared but despite that, the cat actually walked towards me and as I stretched my hand, she climbed on to it like she knew me or some shit.
I did what I thought was right at the moment and took her home. My initial thought was that the owner would come get her later on but after an enquiry from people in the area, it turns out she had been out there for three days prior to our encounter.
She's actually quite the feisty one and no matter what the size of carton I put her in, she always seems to climb out. Whenever she climbs out, she runs around for a while and then runs back to me, and starts rubbing her fur on my legs. That shit is so cute.
I took her to the vet earlier today and he gave her a deworming shot. I saw him squeeze one worm out of her right hind leg and that shit was so disgusting. Moreso because I was the one that flicked it off her legs after he squeezed it out. I told him that she's refused to eat everything I've offered her including fish and milk, and he said I should be patient with her.
For what it's worth, the "vet" is more interested in farm animals like poultry, fish and other economic animals so didn't care much for a starry-eyed grown man with a kitten. He wasn't certain about the gender but said it looks like a female and suggested that I continue trying to feed it fish.
I named her Perdida based on the vet's recommendation. I used google translate to get the name, and it means 'Lost' in Spanish.
I keep her at my landlord's house for now because there's more space for her to roam but I check on her every hour or two to make sure she's still healthy. I've never raised a pet before, so I have no clue how this is done. For now, I'm treating her like a baby with really sharp claws that meows. I tried putting the food into her mouth but she keeps rejecting it, although I heard she drank some of the milk and water I kept for her last night.
So I'm basically a dad right now, and I need any help/advice that the community has to offer. So, yeah, uncle ,
and anybody else who's raised cat, I need your help right now.
